posted a message on [Brainstorm] WH40k Team Survival RPG

It is my intent to create a map similar to NOTD for WC3 based on the WH40k universe. This map will have saveable heroes, multiple modes, a myriad of items and even talent trees.

The story is you and your team of space marines are investigating a lost Space Hulk that has just reemerged from the warp, it is your teams mission to investigate. Shortly after gaining access to the ships systems it reenters the warp stranding you and your team forcing you to use your wits, skills, and cooperation to survive until you can find a way to escape.

Below are the ideas im kicking around, would love some feedback and opinions.

    Controls

    • WASD movement from a topdown perspective, while left clicks attack and 1-5 use skills or consumables.
    • Standard SC2 control using right clicks to move and attack and Hotkeys to activate abilities.

    Items

    • Heroes attack based on the current weapon equiped (I.E. equip a melta and you shoot beams, Chainsword you start meleeing etc.) though would take custom models to make this even halfway presentable.
    • Thinking Mainhand, Offhand, Armor, Helm, Backpack, Relic, Relic for slots.
    • 8x8 inventory to allow for multiple gear sets.
    • Randomly generated gear or preset items, possibly both.

    Heroes

    • Diverse or simple character creation (I.E. choose your chapter, class, talent trees.)
    • What kind of classes would fit? Scout, Space Marine, Terminator, Apothecary, Techmarine.
    • What Stats to use, keep it simple with STR/AGI/INT/STM or diversify with modifiers like %ASP and delve into Hit/Crit etc.

    Gameplay

    • During the game the computer would randomly generate appropriate waves of enemies to attack the party while they move about the ship.
    • Missions would trigger special events like bosses or forcing your team to hole up in a defensible spot till the event is completed.
    • Different modes for different party levels, standard setting is not based off player levels. Hardest mode is suicide without a max level party of 3-5 people.
    • Solo mode gives you control of several NPC non heroes to round your team and allows you to level for later partying. (Gives weaker rewards though.)

    Missions

    • Two types of missions, Storyline and Randomized.
    • Storyline force the game to continue through meaningful completion of objectives.
    • Random missions will be given throughout the storyline, these will be chosen from a pool of missions created as the game develops and will award new encounters with side bosses or lead to caches of loot/supplies.

Any and all feedback/criticism is welcome.
