posted a message on Hots Remake project.

Came across this and thought I'd put in a revised list of ideas, if this project is still alive behind the scenes. If not, perhaps this'll revive it a bit.

The player's choices on certain units cuts other units off: see the Mutalisk sub-tree.

Far from complete, as I wrote this on a whim, but it's a start, right?

    Zergling Evolution.

    Raptor.

    Evolution Mission

Players must now lead the group around various patrols (firebats, hellbats) using the cliffs, ravines, and passes to assault the Dominion outpost.

    Swarmling.

    Devouring One.

Each attack returns a fraction of health, when attacking biological units. They have +1 armour.

    Evolution Mission

Twelve Devouring Ones must break through into the Dominion's supply facility and kill the marines stationed there.

    Baneling Evolution.

    Splitter.

    Hunter.

    Goreling.

    Roach Evolution.

    Corpser.

    Vile.

    Prowler.

    Leech.

    Scavenger.

    Hydralisk Evolution.

    Lurker.

    Impaler.

    Hunter-killer.

    Mantalisk.

    Mutalisk Evolution.

    Viper.

    Guardian.

    Devourer.

    Viper Evolution.

    Cobra.

    Python.

    Guardian Evolution.

    Swarm Guardian.

    Brood Lord

    Brood Lord Evolution.

    Klurken.

    Leviathan.

    Devourer Evolution.

    Corruptor.

    Behemoth.

    Corruptor Evolution.

    Lilev.

    Incubus.

    Nydus Worm Evolution.

    Creep Tower.

Produces broodlings periodically, like the Swarm Host, in addition to making creep highways.

    Evolution Mission

The player has to use these to augment his assault on a protoss colony.

    Nydus Destroyer.

    Greater Nydus Worm.

Supped up Nydus Worms: faster, meatier, stronger.

    Infestor Evolution.

    Dominator.

Single player Infestor: parasitical domination, consume, and all the whistles and bells.

    Evolution Mission

The player must use a force of these special infestors to seize control of enemy troops, and use them to destroy each other. The Dominators must remain hidden from detection at all times, in order to sow discord and confusion amongst the enemy.

    Desecrator.

Infests terran buildings, essentially opening up a sub-tech tree for the zerg player. Sort of like an inverted Haven-type/Left 2 Die-type map.

    Evolution Mission

The player must infest terran bases at various outposts, and use the resulting infested terran units and parasitically controlled terran vehicles to destroy the main Dominion compound.

    Defiler Evolution.

    Unclean One.

    Plagueis.

    Swarm Host Evolution.

    Carrion.

    Creeper.

    Infested Terran Evolution.

    Aberration.

More deformed, but has a harder smack per attack. Explodes like a baneling when killed.

    Centaur.

More advanced and formed than the Aberration: heavier armour, can scale cliffs, but is weaker on the attack. Doesn't explode when killed.

    Overlord Evolution.

    Mastermind.

Uses the "Reward Skin" Overlord model. Increases supply by one; spawns two scourges when killed. Detector. Can carry more units than the default overlord.

    Evolution Mission

Good old fashioned melee versus local militia, Dominion support troops, and a mercenary outfit.

    Overseer.

    Ultralisk Evolution.

    Noxious.

    Torrasque.

    Omegalisk.

Beefed up Ultralisk with tentacles. 'Nuff said.

    Evolution Mission

A single Omegalisk must decimate the strong Dominion presence on the map. One unit carnage!

    Queen Evolution.

    Swarm Queen.

Swarm Queens are much like the Queens used in the campaign: medics and support casters.

    Evolution Mission:

Kel-Morian Combine has wiped out this small brood's main hive-cluster, leaving only a few scattered structures around the map. As squads of marines, firebats, marauders, and medics clean up, a small group of Swarm Queens must covertly rally the shattered, in-hiding forces of the brood and then lead them in an assault on the Kel-Morian's main base.

    Praetorian.

Based on the original concept of the Queen unit, the Praetorian evolves in three stages, like the Brood Mothers. Each stage (Praetorian, to Lair Watcher, to Hive Matriarch) increases the Praetorian's strength, essentially making it a hero-type unit. The Praetorian is supported by the limited units the small hive-cluster can provide: resources, technology, and space will be limited and scarce.

    Evolution Mission

The player must use a small base to cover the gestation of the Praetorian, and then once hatched, use her to destroy the protoss presence on the map, hero-style.

    Handmaiden.

    The classic queen breed!

    Evolution Mission

The player uses a small, tier one hive-cluster to destroy the mercenary outfit's base. The Handmaiden is a key part of supporting the zerg troops, in an indirect role, against the more powerful mercenary units.

    Brood Queen.

The default, multiplayer Queen unit, though capable of also laying eggs for units (like Niadra).

    Evolution Mission

Along with several drones, three Brood Queens must quickly establish a hive-cluster in this area to help a larger brood's assault on an entrenched Dominion base. The player must cover the AI brood's flank from Dominion attacks, destroy the secondary supply bases' Orbital Commands, and support the front-line assault. When the Planetary Fortress is destroyed, the mission ends.

    Crawler Evolution

    Sunken Crawler.

    Needle Crawler.

posted a message on Data Library Salvaging?

    Hi there,

Does anyone know if there's a way to include the HotS single-player assets in a mod, without them actually overriding or modifying the existing, default, vanilla multiplayer stuff, but also keeping them set up - just unused and "unlinked"?

Say, if I decide to add the Impaler or Lurker morph to the multiplayer Hydralisk, I can just add the existing requirements and manually recreate the ability using the existing buttons, etc, without having to manually export (from the singleplayer mpq via mpq editor) and recreate the ability and requirements from scratch (by importing).

    Thanks!
