posted a message on the Civilian Female Portrait

Yes ok. So I've managed to change it in the data. Civilian female/ actors/ Civilian Female/ event: event +/ and then I just deleted all the stuff about portraits. There was 5 different types. I had no idea what it was saying, but I assume it has something to do with the different models. I looked up the marine model just as a comparison and couldn't find anything there for unit portrait... (anything at all, which I thought was strange...although I may of missed it because I'm guessing if it was there...it would of been one instance and I scrolled over it) Anyhow!

I deleted what I could see for the civilian female portrait stuff and then as that happened some of the behavioural stuff underneath highlighted green, those included. Run on, run off, wounded on, scared, hustle on etc. I don't know what these do exactly but after testing the map it didn't alter anything obvious. I encourage anyone who knows about this stuff to do what I've done and see what I mean. So maybe you can tell me what these things are for. I'd apreaciate that very much

    thanks, sock

So I have big ideas but little knowledge... and perhaps little of the right tools I bet I need. The question is. If I want to make my own models, what programs should I be looking for to have on my computer so I can start messing with things? I enjoy the Editor more than I enjoy the game itself, and I'm very keen to start using it to its full. Also... Just a few quick questions to clarify.

Models = what the unit looks like on the map? yes or no

Is it possible to make a model completely from scratch and apply it to the editor? (even as difficult is this task would be)

Is it possible to edit pre existing models and add additional customisations i.e weapons, hair, clothing.

    Thanks for helping!

And hey! Feel free to let me know what got you into modelling or working with animations in 3d. I would love to hear your stories and the things that inspire you!

Yeah, sorry. Stays the same: meaning... doesn't change at all. Still keeps the original portrait... And I think I'm doing it right, not entirely sure what you mean by portrait used by the unit. However... The civilian female is a tricky one, because it has more than one model (as in the way it looks on the map) and each has its own portrait. Depending on the model used. I think this might have something to do with my problem. But yes, to answer your question. I'm positive i'm changing civilian female portrait for civilian female. (and not civilian male, or colonist female etc)

Been trying to change this to something else, but no matter what I change it too. It stays the same. So in the data editor I go to civilian female unit/model/portrait. And change the art facial controller, image, model and lighting. I've been trying to change it to the female scientist if you would like some sort of reference. Doing this to other units seems to work, but for some reason the civilian is being stubborn.

Also, while I have your attention...

Is it possible to make it so no matter what graphic settings you have, the units portrait is ALWAYS going to be image only. So in other words, no 3d animated background stuff.

Peace out. Sock. First post woot!
