Zeldarules and I have been organizing the production of several advertisement videos for Map of the Week. Here's how it works. Several authors with their maps submitted to the program will lend us video footage of their maps. The video editors will take together the footage from several maps, tie it together with some music/text, and make it into an advertisement for MOTW. The winning advertisement will be voted for via poll.
Here's the problem: we have successfully gathered footage of 5 different maps, but i'm the only person who has volunteered to make an advertisement out of them. What I'm asking for is for more people to take the given vids together and make their own advertisements from them. They can submit the ads, write their name into their vid, and have a chance to get their vid chosen. Sorry, there's no benefit, but it will help the project which MAY benefit your map.
well let me think... say you had an upgrade that only applies to one unit, you could have it apply a behavior buff to that unit (5 armor), AND make another property of that behavior buff be the damage fraction thingamagiger...
i'm guessing your problem is the "chosen unit"... and referring to that in the data.
i'm not sure if you have some kinda freaky hosted actor referral thing or whatever, but i'm sure theres a way to find it...
i'm better with triggers than i am with data... data is confusing
the idea is that instead of "terraninfantryarmor", you might change it to "reaper" and "marine"... for every unit. that way you can refer to them as such
when you said that the upgrades should be researched on each unit, you mean you research an upgrade and then the units have to buy the upgrades individually... that's been done in other rts games and it worked great, but we'd have to drastically redesign the cost/build times to make it stay fair
i was thinking (pardon this for being ridiculously difficult) that the buildings could be assembled by some kind of magnetic/nanyte type thing...
i realize nanytes aren't junky, so here's what i'm proposing.
what if everytime you collect a certain amount of resources with your workers, you get scrap drones from the barracks (same way you get larva, only it's based on income) and they fall apart after a certain amount of time if unused. however, you can build structures with these scrap bots by having them link together magnetically and shape into buildings. sounds good? that would separate the workers from the actual build force, making it a more unique race
i already made a zombies map, but i spent 3 months on it and it was waaaaay before this thread. feel free to use it as an example (map name is Naz^Zombies: The Void)
this might be ambitious for a newbie project, since i used a bit of data editing for the weapons, but it'll show you some of the elements you can throw into the map

For information on what Map of the Week is, check this link: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/general-chat/24201-map-of-the-week-voting-for-eu-publisher/#posts
For the resource vids of the maps, check this link: http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/motw/pages/main/
I will soon have an example of a completed advertisement posted... be patient...

5 vids are up... i'm gonna start editing together my own advertisement from the given footage.
i hope that mine is not the only candidate, and that other people take up the challenge to make a vid...
ONCE AGAIN, here's the page link where all of the resource vids are stored

you can make custom life armor values (say one for each individual unit)
you go to their UI panel... i think... and set the armor to unit/lifearmorname/(insert chosen name here)
it's basically creating your own custom armor set
not sure if the unit/lifearmorname is correct, but you could easily look at any unit to see the correct way to list it
hope this helps

this is just a brainstorming thread right? sorry but i feel bad for not contributing beyond posts and i felt like asking...
@AtikLYar: Go

we got 3 resource vids so far... keep it up (why hasn't rodrigo submitted one?)
anyway if you have a map submitted or would like to submit a map, i would encourage you to loan the project videos of your map
as i said before, video editors can use this in-game footage to stitch together an advertising video for the project.
thnks

i would think campaign dependency is your problem...
you can edit the dependencies under file, if i recall
