You should attach some screenshots or a video to the thread as well I think. Attracts more attention :)

I think you should try to find some projects around this site that you would like to test, and then leave them some feedback afterwards. Getting voluntary feedback is the best feeling in the world.

You have done a good job on the video, hopefully this is not the last one. I believe you could have the changed topic to controls in a more elegant way than reading the title aloud though ;)

It's funny; the additions that you mention are actually all part of what I am currently playing around with. Thanks for agreeing with my thoughts though - confirms that I am taking this in the right direction :)

In case anyone's interested, I attached a random screenshot of what my current build looks like:

    Hello,

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on a revamp of my map Frozen Labour, that I am working on. You can find it on battlenet by searching Scorp's Untitled Project. Playing with AI should be fine; they adapt to the player's skill level. Everything but the tutorial should be considered final. Feedback can be given through PM.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks. A clean UI has been a high priority of mine. I hate when things start distracting from the actual game.

Regarding the name, I thought it described the theme of the map well. I will however change map name with an upcoming (huge!) patch.

Seeing nobody playing this map just discourages me from working on it. So this is probably it, I'm moving on! I literally have a million ideas. Jetpack Girl had its day, and unlike World War Three and Kingdom Rush, this one is DOA. Good bye Jetpack Girls, *sniff*.

Nobody playing your map does not equal it's a bad map. I hope you can say out of honesty, that you make maps, not for popularity, but because you love creating them. If you do not enjoy the creation progress - bringing your ideas to life - mapping is not for you; but I assume you don't feel that way, since you already learned using the editor. As there's thousands of maps out there ready to be played, chances are your map will never get played by the big crowd, so I think that should be taken into account when making your map - that it needs to be playable with a low amount of players, perhaps with your own handcrafted AI. That way, you can get together with a couple of friends, or some guys from around here, and have fun playing your maps. That's what I and many others do, and I have not regret spending countless hours creating maps. I wish you tons of fun and excitement.

    Star Fighters

    Public Release

    What's Star Fighters?

Star Fighters is a fast paced 3v3 arena with emphasize on objectives. Players use physics-based skills to outplay their opponents and gain control over the crystals located in the center of the arena. As another twist to the gameplay, all aircrafts move with unstoppable force, making players move forward at a constant speed, as well as having a slow, realistic turn rate (no sharp turns!). The objective is very unique, but is similar(-ish) to the Capture The Flag- and Domination genres known from various shooters and strategy games. Score is gained by picking up, and successfully delivering, crystals to one of two fields located to the north and south of the arena.

    Can't find a lobby? Don't worry!

When developing Star Fighters, I managed to tailor a highly challenging AI with player-like behavior, that can keep even experienced players under pressure. If you find yourself unable to get a full lobby, just hit Play and AI will take control of any empty player slots.

    Game Philosophy

Star Fighters is a fast-paced arena pumped with action and teamplay. One of the most significant requirements I had when designing the game, was to keep it easy to just pick up and play for a desired timeframe. The challenge behind this requirement, is the fact that it's a teamgame and therefor shouldn't be ruined because of a teammate disconnecting. To solve this issue, I kept each match to a fixed time limit of maximum 10 minutes, and tailored an intelligent AI, that can challenge even experienced players. If a player happens to leave, AI will take over. While the game mechanics have a lot of depth, new players will never find themselves useless - not even their first time playing. Star Fighters is designed with the classic "easy to learn, but hard to master" game philosophy in mind. This means that the controls are kept as easy to learn as possible, but at the same time gives veteran players the ability to utilize their experience through clever use of the very same toolset.

With the action-packed gameplay of Star Fighters, it required a simple UI, that would not distract the player, but at the same time look fresh, new and informative. For that reason, I designed it around being transparent and clean looking, while keeping its beauty through smooth, harmonic colors matching the game field.

    Having a suggestion?

Speak up! Star Fighters has just recently entered the public beta phase, which means I am still very much open to any kind of thoughts and suggestions, whether it's gameplay-related or simply an issue that should be addressed.

    See you in space!

    Try Sony Vegas.

I'd recommend Sony Vegas as well, but it is quite an investment if you're just looking to make a few sc2 videos.

posted a message on Songs from WiMP

This is not a music forum. But I'll answer your question anyway.

As far as I am aware, WiMP (among others) has the ability to syncronize your playlists to your device for offline listening, so that once syncronized, an internet connection is not required to listen to your music library.

If you however want to get your hands on the actual sound files, you can buy the songs from various websites (eg. beatport.com). As I am not a WiMP user myself, I do not know whether or not you can buy songs through their service as well, but if you can, that certainly is a viable option as well.

Anyone who watches the new videos, please point out anything that you may find confusing. I know that I go fast; no one wants to spend 15 minutes watching and reading colorful dialogs. I am trying to make it as streamlined as possible; intuitive, is the word.

There's a lot of stuff going on in the UI. I would suggest settling for a single complement or triad color scheme (and then stick to that; the current amount of colours confuse more than anything. Your buttons' foregrounds (text) also have the same colour as their backgrounds, making it difficult to read. Mind that the goal of your UI is to present information in the best possible way, so try keep it nice and clean. You should also consider not using images (or at least not colourful ones) as backgrounds for text fields. That's just my opinion at least.

posted a message on What's going on with everyone?

    Nice thread.

I spend most of my time studying physics these days. I'd like to be an engineer.
Outside of school, I (used to) swim competitively, and now spend a lot of spare time developing software, as well as trying to get into game development outside of SC2. Last summer I quit mapmaking after getting my map Atlas played in the GSL Season 2, but I just recently decided to switch back to SC2 for Arcade modding (melee community is pretty much dead anyway, the reason I quit in the first place). I have been stalking the forums mostly, but finally got around starting a new project up this week together with a friend of mine. You'll hopefully get to hear more in the near future :)

    @EivindL: Go

I swim too - although not competitively these days. A few years ago, back when I was 16, I managed to break 10 km in 2 h (pool). It really feels great reaching one's personal goals; I wish you good luck! :)
