One thing that i planned to do is to make a website and add a system where players can donate in whatever amount they want and in return they will be having a bonus things in the map ( it is all arranged and planned already )

I very much wonder if Blizz won't kill you for that. http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/company/legal/acceptable-use.html Anyone ever tried this?

Mafia used to have such a system. Blizzard forced DarkRevenant to make donation exclusive content available to all players, but at the requirement of a lot (5000 iirc) of accumulated points earned through playing the game. I believe players are still able to donate and receive the required amount of points, but you'll have to look into that.

Just wanted to drop by again to say that I like this project more and more as new content is completed. Your visual work confirms just how much paying attention to the little details pay off. Very inspiring. :)

posted a message on Is SC2 dying?

SC2 has been dying ever since its release, that's how the game market works. But there is no reason to believe that it will die off completely in the coming few years. You can safely continue to mapmake with the expectation of a player base.

I've both had maps that went first page, and maps that were forever buried down the popularity list. While I did enjoy having one of my maps the most played map for a couple of weeks, I believe I have created maps that are far greater than that (though never really popular) - and those are the ones that cross my mind first. To answer the question of reasons to mapmake, I know there's no reason that is labeled as right or wrong. Everyone has different intentions, varying from project to project even. If you're in it for the money though, I would recommend trying a different platform, as SC2 Arcade by nature is free to play.

Your aesthetic data work is really great. I love what you did with the last ice ability.

Also, as a teacher I would find it very difficult to properly evaluate a sc2 map, as you cannot really see what is already in the game and what is your own work...

I don't want to keep you from getting into sc2 mapping though, absolutely do! It's so much fun and you will learn a lot. I just don't know if it's the right thing for school.

I think this is pretty much what it comes down to. Yes, you can start from scratch and make a decent map in a hundred hours, but if someone who has never used the editor is to evaluate your work, there is no way to tell if you actually created any content at all. So, as a hobby I would very much recommend getting into the editor (it's tons of fun!), but for a school project, I think you would be better off creating a simple stand-alone game of some sort.

I don't have an EU account. Unless Blizzard changed the way publishing works and I'm simply not aware of it. When I published Xeno Crisis to EU, I had to get a friend who lives in Europe to lend me his account.

When publishing a map using the editor, you can check and uncheck, which servers you want your map published on. You can switch the region you want to play on at the log-in screen of Starcraft II.

@ScorpSCII: Go I'm not sure what you mean regarding the tutorial. Are you saying the white text is too difficult to read or did the tutorial simply stop working?

Adding a transparent background to the text field would greatly add to the readability, although I was mostly refering to the fact that all text outputs were printed twice. Take another look at the screenshot.

I would also like to add that I think you should add more strategic depth by adding new options (I only had two variations of staff to choose from, for example). I did enjoy playing Star Bar, but I can imagine it will change quickly after some replays, unless you allow for games to be more varied.

    I hope I could help.

Why is this not uploaded to EU? Also, I had to quit the tutorial early as a bug made it completely unreadable. Screenshot attached. Once I got into a game though, I thought it was pretty fun.

Simple command card replaces the ordinary icon setup with instructional text, which can be enabled/disabled locally in game settings. You can force the option off using triggers.

If the map is unprotected, you can download it through the editor in Files -> Open. If it however is protected, I am pretty sure the author decided to do so for a reason.
