You can use Gimp + DDS - Plugin (freeware).

Those only run on windows, and i'm not gonna get hacking software to use windows on my mac like 99% of pc users use hackintosh

You could run a virtual linux machine with Gimp.

Or you could just download Gimp for Mac. Link

posted a message on Item AoE cursor still not working after 1.4 patch

I've been trying to create an item with an ability along with the AoE cursor. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work.

I tried giving a marine the ability(which has an Effect - cursor effect" set up to show the AoE cursor. I also gave him an item linked to the same ability. Still, the AoE cursor shows up when I use the ability on my command card but not when I use it from the item.

I searched and found other threads about it but it should've been fixed in the 1.4 path. Quote:

"Added support for items with abilities to display AoE cursors, show progress, and use the minimap for targeting."

Is it impossible or is there some workaround that I can use?

This reminds me of my custom map where I *accidently* gave zerglings a negative attack speed. It only seemed to make the attack speed 0 though.

Not to mention the fact that you haven't told us what you're going to do. Are you just going to provide the idea and stand at the side cheering while we complete your map for you?

Even if I was a talented map maker who would go out of my way to contact you, I wouldn't accept those terms.

If this is not the case and you're actually able to do something else than "I think I know what a trigger is", you should say so because then you probably want to search for someone with skills different from yours so you can complement each other.

Okay, I am not really a terrainer but I found this WTE to be interesting. To trick people into thinking I am not an absolutely horrible terrainer, I "borrowed" the terrain from "The shattered temple" melee map.

The easiest way to do it, I think, would be to save the label in a dialog item variable and then use "Set Dialog Item Text" to change the contents of the label when the new trigger is activated.

I have looked at that tutorial but that is not what I am trying to make, nor can I find anything in there that suggest why my mover is not doing what I want.

posted a message on Why can't I get a simple throw mover to work?

This is one of the things I've worked the most on recently without getting it to work.

I want something that should be very simple. One ability(Effect - target), one effect(Launch Missile - target point) and a missile with a mover that moves straight forward and only dies because of the mover's timeout.

I've tried a lot of things but it only change how much it doesn't work. I've read blizzard's mover tutorial but that's not solving the problem.

Problems I get: Sometimes the missile just go straight south instead of in the direction the caster faces. I tried changing the throw rotation type but it only affects rotation, not which way it launches. I found out that if I change the throw vector to (0,-1,0) it casts it in the right direction and the missile goes in the right direction but it's climbing up in the air until you can't see it anymore or it goes lower and lower into the ground.

This is how far I've got. Whatever I do, it doesn't go STRAIGHT, it's either angled down or up.

I've been messing with the throw vector, the launch missile's impact and launch offset and the missile's height with varying success but it never goes straight.

Sometimes it climbs faster depending on how close I cast the ability. So if I cast the ability next to me, it climbs fast but if I cast it 20 range away, it barely climbs at all.

Edit: It seems like I actually got something almost working now. It goes straight forward UNTIL it reaches the target point, then it starts going upward. The smaller the distance between the target point and the caster, the steeper the missile climbs when it reaches the target point.

To continue on what DuckyTheDuck said:

The best way to get your map created is to do it yourself. The editor might look scary but we've all been beginners. Try it out yourself and you can always ask for help when you get stuck.

People are more likely to help you with small problems you're having than to do the entire map for you.

I think you're dumbing down the average battle.net player. Even if an average battle.net player is too stupid to read stuff, I still appreciate feedback from those who do read stuff and enjoy my map. Most people don't bother going out of the game to find your map on sc2mapster or mailing you with feedback.

This will make it easy to get feedback and that's something I really welcome.

I am not trying to convince you. If you don't like making maps if they're not opened with open arms by the community, then by all means, don't get HotS. Although, that probably means you should stop making maps all together since you probably wont be able to keep up with the awesomeness of the additions in HotS.

I create because I like it, not for others to enjoy it. Although it is nice to get feedback and know others enjoy it as well.

There are definitely a lot of very nice editor improvements and it feels like the arcade is a very good step in the right direction.

Blizzard is still trying to do their own thing with different categories like "Up & coming", "What's hot?" and such, but it seems like maps will get a project page in game where you can view instructions on how to play, patch notes, write reviews, leave feedback etc.

And yes, all those dota questions were stupid. We want to hear about the editor. Also, the question about naming banelings made me lol.
