The editor has a simple section, it's called the Map editor. All you need to do is make a map, no custom triggers or data editing required. If you want to make something more exotic, you'll need to learn like the rest of us. And once you do, and you make your first working unit or whatever at the point where it's not a struggle, you'll feel a sense of pride, because it was something that you done, all on your own. Happy days.
I wouldn't count on Blizz to make it any easier, though a helpful guide which explains things would be nice. The only reason it's dificult just now, is because somethings aren't explained fully. And I'm sure some modder will make a program to go along with GE to help simply the process involved, though it may mean alot of control would be lost.
@Nitroball:
Wow really? I thought it'd be bigger. Well if ya get some free time and would like to help on my project between your own/others projects, feel free to PM me.
Does anyone have any thoughts on if this would be possible? Basically the further a unit is away from the target the less damage it would do? I'm basically looking to create a shotgun type effect, but I don't want to completely ruin the unit at range.
How small a file size can you make your models? At the moment I'm working on a mod, that I'd love to have custom models in, but with the 10.5 MB and 21MB limits, it's not likely to happen any time soon. Regardless, I think that's probably gonna be a more useful measure of modeling at the moment than anything else, all well an' good haveing an awesome unit, but if you can't upload it, no one can see it.
Regardless, good work, hope to see anything else you do.
I've been wracking my brain trying to get this to work, but I just can't get there, no matter what I seem to do, I can't get a DoT to apply after a damage impact. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried using a behaviour and search, but I can't get them to start up upon impact. I'm only wanting it to affect the target and no other units.
To summarize:
Attack => Impact => Damage => DoT
I just can't see what I'm missing, and I'm sure it's something simple.
Yea, somethin' along those lines, gonna have a look at that and see if I can work out how to apply it to my variant.
Edit: Awesome, I finally worked out why I couldn't get it to work, in the events, I was always creating something, basically itself, so it could never actually do anything. I'm surprised it didn't crash. But if I just set it to create, with nothing else, it worked perfectly.
Sometimes I wonder how I get dressed in the morning.
Anyways, thanks very much Ulab, that's helped out a great deal for me. Much appieciated.
No idea on how to modify the model appearance, but the footprint is simple enough.
Go to the footprint of the structure, and go to "Layer => Placement check" You'll want No build and No creep selected in the invalid section.
Then go to "Layer => Placement apply" And check ground no spawn, no build and no creep.
That should get you the "Green" footprint which'll give the realtime footprint. You may need to mess around slightly with the pathing section as well, but that's just to taste really, pretty sure it's more useful for things that need to attach to other buildings, or cliffs etc...
I'm wanting to make a custom UI frame, but I can't export the assests from GE, and I can't find the MPQ that houses them either, does anyone know the dimensions for them, or have the assests already extracted and could share? Or better yet, if someone could tell me where the MPQ that houses them is I could extract them myself.
I'm not looking to move the UI around, or hide it or anything, just change the look of the frame.
That wouldn't be much use, my unit doesn't deploy itself or anything else, the guardian shield is effectively a building with a life timer. But thanks anyways.
I've got an aura which works perfectly, cloaks units in an area when the casting unit is stationary. All is good on that front. Now what I want to do is apply a "dome" when the aura is in effect, to give a visual representation of whee the cloak bubble is. For players to have a better idea of where the effect stops. I've tried using behaviour cloak on, create. and behaviour cloak off, destroy in the events of a new actor, and included the model for the dome that I want to use. however it won't show. Anyone any ideas?
Basically I'm looking for:
unit stops = aura on = create dome
Unit moves = aura off = no dome.

Then it's just a map file, it should be fine.

Basically just wanting to change the look of the frame, leavin' the buttons, portrait map etc.. as they are.
I tried extracting the textures, but it wouldn't save, and if I tried to rename it said it was invalid.
