posted a message on Krazy Plays!

Awesome, it's great to see people want to test out games!

If you get a chance, try Death By Fantasy by me, Wargirl, and Moustro. It supports 1-4 players and it's a cooperative action game. Super easy to learn. (US Server)

    Thanks!

posted a message on Want to see someone else play your Map/Mod?

Thanks for the review, Deadzergling! Saw a couple of glitches (like being able to travel into the last area before the boss fight's over) that I'll fix.

Regarding the attempted humor, it is actually a coldly calculated design decision. Since I've never played Warcraft before, I needed a defense mechanism to mask my ignorance of the lore and characters. Making all the dialogue a big joke and breaking the fourth wall is my way of saying "please don't hate me, Warcraft people, for not understanding your universe!" It takes the focus away from my ineptitude and onto something that people seem to enjoy.

    BTW I think you're a robot.

Thanks and good luck on your project!

    Hey Zergling!

I was going to wait until I got the last level finished, but since you have nothing else you're working on and there's a deadline for these things, would you like to give "Death By Fantasy" a try? I'd suggest playing with at least one other person. If you play through it without wiping and restarting a level, it will take about 25 minutes to complete.

It was made by me, with Terrain done by Wargirl and the Soundtrack done by Moustro. I highly suggest playing it with music enabled because his stuff is fantastic!

And if you do have other maps to try, you can put this one off a little, we hope to have the final level finished and playable in a week or so.

    Thanks!

posted a message on Blizz: First paid content in arcade, no time line. Blizz will work with specific content creators at first

I don't see why this issue is controversial (I never understood the Steam controversy either).

Financial incentive means more people/better people will be making games for the Arcade.

Blizz wants more and better content creators, and is experimenting with a method of implementing this.

A lot of us wouldn't take advantage of a system for getting paid, but some of us would. Likewise, most of the consumers of the SC2 arcade wouldn't pay for stuff, but some of us would.

I think all the talk of greed and whatnot is irrelevant. I don't see any moral issues with this. Then again I'm a classical economistic libertarian fruitloop capitalist, so take my over simplistic viewpoint with a grain of salt.

posted a message on Loading Screen Music?

I tried creating and uploading a dependency with the music to use for the loading screen. Couldn't get it to work, though. Here's what I did:

(I don't know a lot about dependencies, mod files, etc., so my terminology might be a little off and you will probably notice some logic gaps here.)

I created a new mod file with nothing in it. I imported the music file, then created a music sound effect for it. I then published it publicly, as a mod.

Then I open my map and go to the dependencies menu. I find the mod file I uploaded and add it to my map. Sure enough, the sound effect with the music is in my Data.

I then select the sound from the Loading Screen menu to act as the Loading Screen music.

And...nothing. Any ideas where to go from here? I have also tried going into the "Preload" settings and preloading the sound in question, but still no luck.

Any ideas/suggestions/perfect-and-simple-solutions-that-fix-everything would be greatly appreciated!

Patch 3.0 added a field for Loading Screen music. I tried it out myself but I haven't gotten it to work yet. Has anyone tried it out and perhaps gotten it to work?

posted a message on Unable to publish to Americas region

Hmm, I only managed to successfully publish my game to US once. It was the first time I used the 64-bit editor so I thought that had fixed it, but I haven't gotten it to work since.

Also, I happened to be at a friend's house using a different internet connection when it worked. It's a much slower connection than my own, though.

I can't imagine there's any correlation between the slowness of your internet and the success of the publishing. Dumb luck?

Thanks for your comment, I gave it a try with the 64 bit editor and it worked!

Same here, haven't been able to break that last 1%, can get to 99 most the time at least.

I tried publishing to EU and it worked just fine, so it must be on blizz's end on the US server.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm experiencing. I'm glad (well, "glad" isn't really the right term) it's not just me.

I sent off an email to Blizz to see what's going on. I can't imagine they would remove their warcraft III assets, especially during the RTC competition!

posted a message on Patch 3.0 Map-Maker Troubleshooter Thread

I've got an odd problem: when I try to open my map, which uses the standard Blizzard Warcraft III Assets (not Renee's mod), I'm getting an error that the dependency cannot be found. I tried finding it through the Editor, looking at Blizzard dependencies and I can't find it anywhere.

Any idea of Blizz removed their Warcraft III assets? Or maybe it's just in a different place or something?

Wargirl, Moustro, and I played through what we've completed so far, giving our best "commentary" on the way. We also have the next level out, and it's an exciting one!

posted a message on And the new Arcade UI is revealed!

Looks really impressive! Although the chat stuff seems like the same old system to me with some more bells and whistles, the Arcade menu looked like it instantly took people to the Open Games List. If that's really the case, this is definitely a step in the right direction!

And it wouldn't surprise me if Blizz is purposely not showing how many players are sitting in each lobby. I think they'd be worried that if too many people are looking for almost-full games, the emptier games will never fill up at all.

I'm also curious if the games in the Open Games list are still ordered by when the lobby was opened. SCI had an exploit that allowed people to reset their position in the list easily from the lobby, making the overall list, for all intents and purposes, completely random. I think it worked better randomized than it has been working in Bnet 2.0, where you know all the games slow to start tend to drift upward in the list.
