    posted a message on who else listens to dubstep when editing!?!

    I had to go to wikipedia to learn what dubstep is. The thing was invented when I was 13 years old... Sounds horrible too, like there wasn't enough crappy electronic music around. That's right, your music sucks and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

    posted a message on What are the map tags?

    They're for the terrain editor and they work like layers in Photoshop. You define your layers/tags, then you can assign them to units, doodads, points, anything that's placeable in the terrain editor (in the properties of the object). You can then toggle the visibility of a selected layer (in the View menu), makes things easier if you have a crapload of stuff on your map that you don't need to see at the moment.

    Not sure what the difficulty checkboxes are for (maybe layer only appears in selected difficulty? didn't test it)

    Wait a minute... can we now upload maps to any region (global play?) or are you guys talking about uploading if you have multiple SC2 licenses?

    if you really can't play custom maps unless it's through the editor or through the arcade (I can't get them to run through the SC2 exe anymore)

    You can still run maps offline through the exe, just now you have to use Support/SC2Switcher.exe instead of StarCraft2.exe (it's just the launcher now, not the main executable)

    Here's the full run command along with the parameters (not sure if they're all needed and what some of them do)

    "F:\StarCraft II\Support\SC2Switcher.exe" -run "TestMap.SC2Map" -displaymode 0 -trigdebug -preload 1 -NoUserCheats -reloadcheck -meleeMod Liberty -difficulty 2 -speed 0

    Not sure if it's organized like that Q&A they did a few years ago or that the devs will just freely reply to topics in the custom map forums.

    Anyway, go ask question. Be polite and don't ask stupid things.

    posted a message on Patch 1.5 Release date

    Can someone clarify: the Art Tools are just plugins for a $3000+ application, no other way of using them, right?

    what is the default resoluton for the screenshots?

    800x600 is the maximum. if you try to use a bigger one then you'll be given an option to crop it (but not resize). This is strange because the lowest possible resolution that SC2 can run is 1024x768...

    The "Editor Text" tells the field to act as the name/prefix/suffix for instances (only visible in the trigger editor).

    If you take my example and set the Class field to Suffix, then the name of instances will be displayed as "Sandro Necromancer" and not just "Sandro".

    @Taintedwisp: Go

    I don't think those data types (Hero Abilities, Hero Stats) do anything right now. They're obviously for Blizzard Dota Allstars, so they'll either "activate" once it comes out, or they'll stay the way they are now because Blizzard will only use them to store data, not actually do stuff like actors or units.

    Yeah, they can be used as a database, but there is a problem: you can't add a new "instance" with triggers.

    If I wanted to add a 4th hero "instance" to this, I'd have to do it manually in the data editor.

    As for storing the user types in banks, the "Save User Data" function does exactly that. It even saves space by storing only values that have been modified. So in my example the Name, Class or Specialty fields wouldn't get get stored in the bank because they'll never change.

    Is that HOMM 3? :)

    It's a table filled with HOMM3 data I used to test out User Types :P

    Here's a list of new native functions in 1.5.

    Since you don't like data, here's some new data stuff. You can define "User Types" in the data editor and then modify them with triggers. Useful if you don't really like making absurdly big records and arrays to hold data for your map.

    The editor freezes for a few seconds when I try to place a new (not used before) unit in the terrain editor.

    Open any window in Windows, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types (tab). Find the sc2map extension and click Advanced to change icon or program that opens it.

    I'm on WinXP, not sure if Win7 has this.... :P

    Blizzard announced that HotS will have global play, so hopefully we'll be able to publish maps in any region without having to buy 3 copies of the game.

    posted a message on UI XML Editor

    @Hookah604: Go

    It's as "operational" as the old cinematic editor (the one under map->cinematics). Yes, you could use it to create cinematics, but nobody ever did because triggers were better.

    Modifying the standard SC2 UI is the only reason why people even bother with layout files (making the command panel into a single line, moving the minimap, etc). Making new frames is (was?) pointless, since they can't interact with triggers.
