Can't confirm yet because I'm not ready to test online... but in IRC someone who had tested the exact byte amount figured it out and then I used his calculations to check how many characters I could store (total). I really should have written more down, as I forget with who and what I exactly worked out... but I'm pretty sure I was well on the safe side with 200-character strings times 6.

FYI I am using save/load codes in my rpg and I put it in a bank with a bunch flowery and checksumming etc. There's a tutorial on the web on how to do save/load codes for war3... I used that, changed it a bit, and then used the bank information from Hive to save it. I believe we can store about 300-character strings per player if you have 6 players in your game (worked this out) for BNET. I'm using about 200 per player saving only 1 hero. I got a lot of item slots though.

posted a message on How does map popularity actually work?

    @progammer: Go

    Totally agree.

Hell, I had someone on my friends list and I wanted to give his name/code to another friend to add. I couldn't find it. I eventually had to ask him what his code was. HE'S ON MY FRIENDS LIST! (I will apologize if there is a way and I missed something).

Well, I'm glad they changed the popularity system to be time-based now if Sixen is right, and he usually is with his insider-info! The problem is that that now we're really screwed if we want a map to make its way up after release. There's no way to test maps publicly if we upload it and host and it sits on page 34.

I guess we'll just have to release our maps on 12AM july 27th so we can get on page 1 lol. Either that or watch our map never be played (under the mass of crap games on page 1).

I even decided to actually try a few of the phase-2 page 1 maps yesterday. GARBAGE. I hate to be so mean but it pains me to see the maps that are on page 1 (in general). First game I played was like a hero game, but the hero didn't level and already had his spells. We just attack moved basically. Second game was called Sentry <something> and it was 3v1 where the 1 guy didn't know he was alone and we killed him in 30 secs and he had to leave. We then just started blinking around and abusing the fact that a missile spell targets allies (intended?).

How those maps sustain 2000 games per hour I will NEVER know. Well actually I do know: They put the map on right after patch.

I didn't come from sc1, but are these the types of games that were on there? War3 had much higher quality maps (albeit, not on release though... actually I take that back lol). However, we have so much knowledge now that we can definitely make high quality maps even in beta. In fact, we've all seen the high quality maps here on sc2mapster. They are not on the front page (most)... or even page 2. Such a shame. Either the system sucks or people's opinions of good maps suck.

MAPPERS! WORK ON YOUR TERRAIN! (FLAT = UGLY) TEST YOUR GAME! CHANGE LIGHTING FROM DEFAULT BLAND GRAY! ETC!!!

:( rant over. I guess my map better be damn good or I'll be eating my words. I'm sure some of them read sc2mapster.

And I haven't tried several of the page 1 maps so I'm not commenting on all of them. But my assessment is made having played many in phase 1 and a couple in phase 2.

posted a message on What do YOU think are the best shows?

I can't watch any serious TV show really. I get too annoyed by bad camera quality, slow-pace, characters I don't like, shoddy writing, or I just get bored. Movies/film are too good to us lol. I'm also quite cynical if you haven't noticed.

But I watch a lot of reruns: simpsons, family guy, king of queens, seinfeld, the office, survivor man, Departures (AWESOME canadian show, travelling across the world).

TV writing isn't as good as it was though. Thinking back to old simpsons, 1st few seasons of family guy, seinfeld, and so on... compare that to shows now... kind of weak. And it's not like I'm some old guy reminiscing on the good old days when things were better... I'm 22... and just look at the evidence: TV ratings are so low now.

Yeah your trigger helped me a lot.

Hey! I didn't know we could hide units... I had my items moved to a secret spot. Well, this is interesting. I'll credit you in my video tutorial.

Maybe my memory is wrong, but didn't war3 drop the item on the ground if your inventory was full? I can't remember too well though because I have diablo 2/war3/WoW all mixed up in my brain.

Ah nice you found it out.

I got my trigger version working pretty well too! Data version needs some Blizz-end fixes like item-dropping thing.

I think I might do my trigger version in a video tutorial...

I nominate a knockback that also knocks the unit in the air. The unit should also acquire back to the casting unit after being blast away a few yards.

posted a message on So... real ID no longer required.

Maybe it was to benefit us, or they wanted a universal system because of Korea (korean government requires real ID on sites with over 100,000 visitors). Either way, I'm very happy I'll be able to get my Onetwo name for forum posting :D:D

    Let's hope I can get Onetwo.212 in release!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't think so :(

Edit: Also, let's not all of a sudden forget about the real-ID forum thing. That's a pretty big issue even if this patch is coming out.
