The reason the video is sort of vague is that the map is still in alpha and I haven't been able to test obviously. It's a multiplayer game so I need Bnet. Basically it's like war3 heroes with WoW's questing/items/bosses. Story is nonexistant atm really. Basically just kill X, find X, grab X item quests atm.
Lol nuked city was me at 1am rushing the final shot. Assassin was first part I did hence it looks the best.
Haha thanks. Yeah it's a judgement call. The original video I demoed privately was twice as long... and I liked it more. I guess I just have an affinity for slow motion stuff. I also had to somewhat sync to the music so certain parts may be going fast/slow based on that.
Also, to Sephiex... I think the Ranger is the coolest one... not anticlimactic haha. I'll agree the Magus is though; it's showing one of Prozaicmuze's spells though!
Hey guys, made a demo-video for my RPG. Still havent' decided on a name at the moment, but anyway, enjoy this :)
Special thanks to MindWorX for figuring out super slow motion in sc2.
From my youtube description: "The map is not done... but it's getting there. Enjoy the video; it's nothing like the actual game. But then again, when were game-cinematics anything like the actual game?"
I posted this on TL already: I don't mind having a name like my SC2 character linked to my global acct, but I am not enthusiastic about having my real name all over the internet forums. I don't even have facebook because I don't want people snooping around my life... now this... I'll just stick to the old forums I guess. SC2Mapster forums are good too.
P.S. the new forum system LOOKS great. Just don't show our real name...
You've got to make sure you'll have fun playing whatever you're making. You've got to be aware of your tastes too. In my case, I love popular games like diablo 2, war3, WoW, CS, TF2, sc2, etc... so any map I make is likely going to contain those traits. But if you came from flight simulator or something like that and that was your taste... good luck getting a map on page 1. It's also completely random too... you never know what the public will like. I personally only liked (and would replay) maybe 1 or 2 maps on the first page of phase 1's popularity list.
Being mappers gives us a luxury; albeit no paycheck, but the luxury of doing whatever we want... doing it our way... and having the freedom to break off if we want.
My first sc2 "true" release was Infection. It was on page 1 on map-publishing day, and it was there for a while... but eventually it died.
Was it because the publishing system heavily favored short-duration/4-player maps? (my map was 12 players & long-lasting map)
Was it because it wasn't good enough?
Was it because it wasn't easy enough to use?
I don't know... but I had a lot of fun playing on full 12 player games, and it seemed like the people I played it with enjoyed it. I spent weeks keeping it updated too, and got it very refined compared to the original. Yet, during the last part of phase 1, I could bump it up but it would quickly fall to page XX again. So it remains a mystery, but at least I have some knowledge that people enjoyed it... and myself too.
I think the publishing system will even out compared to War3. SC2 we have 10 maps on front page or whatever... only one would be DOTA. In war3 you have 10 maps on the list but 8 would be DOTA.
You're good at this. It does indeed take experience to terrain like you do. I think more people should focus on terraining though. A lot of war3 maps were pretty ugly, and it'll probably happen here again :O
Hey everyone, finally cranked out another tutorial... this time I will be showing how to make items, item classes, item bags/equipment, pawning items, and "mob" loot. Only thing I don't show is buying items, but Bifuu has shown that already :D
Part 1:
Right click the video and click watch on youtube to get widescreen/fullscreen.
Subsequent parts in the descriptions...
I don't really agree with what he said though... why should they add in all those things to bnet when clearly they wouldn't work under the new system... The interview's tone was a bit overly serious, but maybe in NA we don't understand the lifestyle of starcraft. He should be less harsh on Blizzard... it's not like they aren't trying.
Also, I don't think his opinions have changed much; Just his attitude. I think everyone's attitudes have changed... hopefully when beta comes back up we can all relax and play some good ole *err new* sc2 :D
Awesome job. You clearly have great cinematic ability.
The only things that hurt it are the 360p upload and the laggy parts. I can only think of one way to fix the latter (outside of buying a new computer):
Perhaps you can record the footage on Slow game mode or even slower (didn't some guy make a post about how to slow the game further?). Then in post-production increase the speed back to 24 frames per second or w/e. Maybe that would alleviate the in-game lag :)

I used all Blizzard sounds... even the music was zerg game song that I tweaked slower.

I would also recommend looking at archives of front page map-demos too... some of them have been released and would probably be interesting.
