And then it feels like everyone is making music too while map making :DD Have done some simple experimental tracks years ago, playing sound with same notes and copy pasting stuff. A lot off loops and monotonous sounds in the earliest tries to do music. Even today still have tries which leads not really far or it sounds nice till trying to add more sounds to add atmosphere to it and not to leave blank loop or track.

Havent listened to your works guys tomorrow will :]

I find this very strange, but it's a strong connection. Almost every semi-good indie games out there have their brilliant soundtrack as a feature (best example: Bastion). Just look at Humble Indie Bundle, every game sold there has its own soundtrack. Granted, soundtrack provide a different sources of revenue for indie, which is mostly why they did it. but I can't help but think there's a connection with people with a brain for game design (or at least programming) and the appreciation for music. Some devs make their own music, some are composed by a friend of the dev. I strongly identify myself as this kind of person while having no talents for making any music of some sort. Hell i'm not even interested in music in the first place. But now my indie soundtrack collection is growing. It must be a good thing.

posted a message on So I just played Tower Defense Tycoon

I don't think there's been a lack of innovation in this genre, it's rather the amount of copycat that's too much and saturated. The type of traditional TD is low on hardware requirement, requires little input during gameplay, simple and easy to understand. It's also very simple to make.

Moving away from the formula is taking risks and potentially risk losing the original audiences (for example I prefer boring and carefully planned strategy so I didn't enjoy Orc Must Die or Dungeon Defenders that much). Most TD just market themselves as traditional TD with a "twist" rather than combining genres and being totally different.

Then again I'm against the trends of categorizing genres by mechanics. Like any other medium, genres should be based on what experiences or kind of satisfaction that is sought after in the game. Mechanics is the secondary part.

About the UI thing, I think it's just specific to RTS modders. It make sense with the original game that a building must be built by some sort of builder. So giving player control of the builder is intuitive. Of course if we are modding Red Alert then it's a different situation. But it is easy now in SC2 to build straight from a menu or UI button.

Bonus: I've just found out that Gratuitous Tank Battle is a TD, and it's involve both defenders and attackers that shooting at each other. The only different is that one is not moving. And it's quite hectic.

    Like system = completely worthless.

That's the only changes that's visible to end users. There's much more bug fixs going on behind the scenes. Curse do have active devs working on mapster and curseforge. For example here's the change log

About the situation. Everything should be back to normal. Sixen is no longer employed by Curse, but he will still be running his site for as long as he wants to (as a volunteer). It's time to party !!! (assuming that Sixen choose to stay, I've got no say in this).

Wait your taking over? This makes less and less sense, No offense, but you havent really been an "active" Moderator for nearly a year. Thats like putting EW or DarkRev in charge, sure your good moderators, but You are not really active... lol

No, he works for Curse (on Diablofans iirc), someone else is taking over. At least we got an undercover man there :P

Edit: Got ninja'ed for 20 minutes and didn't realize

Analogy of raising a child for years and then get taken custody from you. Tears commence...

This is sad news but at least we can be sure that the site is not going down in the near future. Since the new admin is going to run multiple sites at once, there's no reason not to keep the mod team (including Sixen) around. Optimistically, everything will run like usual. Things might get slower than it already were (bug fix, respond etc...) We might get shutdown at any moment (after HoTS or after LotV).... etc. There's no need to panic.

Or we could just start a slow transition to a new site.

This is the event that replace Blizzcon this year. Supposedly HotS release date should be announced here but it was already out last week. So don't expect any announcement in the opening ceremony.

"Oh yeah editor stuff is totally free no strings attached! ... Everything else costs bud pay up or get out."

    :(

It's not a big deal, you can freely access HotS assets even if you don't have a valid HotS license. There are multiple ways (account sharing, server emulation). Running map locally should be also pretty simple as long as there are no new strange network architecture is rewritten in HotS.

The only thing you need a license for is to publish said map. This is perfectly acceptable for me.

"BEHIND THE SCENES BLU-RAY™ / DVD SET Get an inside look into the history of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. This exclusive Blu-ray™ / DVD two-disc set contains over an hour of bonus features including tutorials on StarCraft II's map and movie editors, roundtable discussions with the voice actors behind your favorite StarCraft II characters, and an exposition hosted by Sean "Day[9]" Plott on StarCraft II's eSports legacy."

    Editor Tutorials?

Don't worry Sixen will get it and he will tell us if there's anything new. I'm sure it wont be too advanced compared to their tutorials on the website since the CE is aimed for everyone

No artbook or soundtrack for that even? Doesn't really justify the price at all...

I'd say both can be provided in digital form, even the behind the scenes dvd. But I'm not sure how they will distribute it since this is the first time Blizz provide a Digital Deluxe edition. Or they might even decided not to provide it at all.

I'm going with the 3rd option, it sounds lame
