Is Launch Missile an event+ thing? I can't find it.

The Site is being hosted on the Model Actor (the cannon) on the Host+ field, and the Site Operations+ is SOpAttachWeapon. The Action is using the Site as it's Launch Site. The cannon is hosted on the Invisible Model.

I've been trying (and failing) to make a weapon fire from a model attached to another model.

Gun Model -hosted on-> Invisible Model (has Turret) -hosted on-> Unit

I know I need an Action Actor and a Site Actor, but I must be doing something wrong since the weapon continues to fire from the Unit's origin point. The action uses the Site as a Launch Site, and the Site uses SOpAttachWeapon as it's Site Operations+. The Site has events that create/destroy on Unit Birth/Death and the Action has create on damage Effect. The Gun Model (Korhal Cannon) has a Weapon attachment, I checked. So I'm guessing it's the intermediary Invisible Model that's the root of the problem?

PS: if I want to make an artillery weapon with an arcing projectile, what base game example should I look at for reference?

PS2: Could someone tell me how to make the Gun Model face a 225 degree when the Unit morphs? I tried Set Facing on morph start, but it doesn't really work. It resets after the unit morphs back (which is when the Turret is enabled), and it doesn't turn either, it just resets. I tried looking at the Siege Tank, but that one just destroys the turret every time. Doesn't work for what I wanna do.

Thanks for the favourable replies. I shall send out a few PMs. I did check the memtoring thread, and got one positive reply but said person is in a 9hr+ timezone which makes communication difficult. I did PM another one recently, but I thought I'd try my luck here as well.

Okay, this may come off as a bizarre request but is there anyone out there with an EU timezone that would care to help me out on learning the editor? I get hopelessly boggled when I try anything in the Galaxy Editor and having a guiding hand would help me out significantly. Specifically, I need help with the data editor (who doesn't?) and some triggers. Eventually I might try UIs, but one step at a time, shall we?

I'm still at entry level as regards to the editor. I try to learn via experimentation, but constantly hitting roadblocks kinda makes progress slow. For example, I tried making a Colossus attack in a forward line rather two perpendicular swipes, but I've been getting weird long-lasting beams that damage instantly, and I can't fix it.

Currently I'm trying to make a build system like in CnC, where you 'train' the building in the UI and place it down afterwards, so I've been messing with dialogues to make a seperate UI for the buildings that have been completed, but I hit roadblocks again with the triggers. I do have a more unified idea of what I want to make eventually, but, y'know, baby steps.

Besides that, a learning buddy might also help. Anything is more interesting with a friend, right? Skype is my main method of internet communication, but I also have xfire. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll provide you with any contact details.

PS: I tried mentoring but said mentor is in US timezone, and with 9hr difference, kinda hard to get help. I PM'd another one but instead of just waiting, I figured I'd post here too.

Well you don't really need a mic to Skype, you can always just type. The selling point of this entire endeavour, imo, is the fact that you get quick response and maybe specific explanations to your problem(s).

Hmm, you do have a point.

Skype personally would be great for me since I'm always online. Maybe we could have like a chatroom of sorts where some experts decide on a time they will be available and people can come in and ask questions? Maybe limit it to a couple or trio of people per expert so as to not overwhelm them?

As far as people who use the Arcade site are concerned, I'm pretty sure something like that could get coverage by the more popular gaming news sites like RPS (who have been known to cover mods) and Reddit. If they don't, we can always let them know lol. If this mentoring thing takes off, people will know.

I highly doubt Blizz will do that. If anything, it'll have to be an entirely fan-funded project. Imagine something akin to a kickstarter, like something to be done on Patreon or Subbable, where teachers sign up, and people interested to learn donate whatever amount they can, and the monthly fee is split between the teachers. Food for thought.

Warhammer 40k is fun and everything, but posting some screenshots (or links to specific thread with the screenshots) might help garner more attention. Of the terrain I've seen on the forums, you'd might want to give the map a bit more polish, though that might become more relevant later in production. Hero screenshots would be neat as well.

Now that does sound interesting, considering the very basic learning curve for the editor is like scaling a cliff on Jupiter with no arms. I mean just looking at the data editor was enough to make me reconsider my priorities. I spent years learning the Wc3 editor and thought, yknow, there will be learning, but I'll be good with the Galaxy Editor in no time. Didn't happen. Still hasn't. Having a dedicated 'support group' of sorts does sound interesting, though I'm not sure whether it's just me.

I'm not particularly interested in making campaigns (for now). All I was ever really passionate about was making altered melee type maps (Hell, I even made a mod for Warcraft 3... which I have yet to update lol), or maybe tower defenses to an extent, but these tend to be rather ambitious. I tried to start slow with a very simple tower defense with just a few towers just to learn the data editor but even that was too challenging.

For this to genuinely work, imo, there will need to be an expert to help people out. Otherwise it'll just be an unending case of, "Hey guys, I'm having trouble with XYZ, anyone have a solution?" being met with, "Er, no idea, ask the forums."

Colour me interested, but perhaps some more incentive might make this experiment more likely to succeed. I'm talking money. As in donations. From the newbs. Those who are able to. To the experts. Maybe? That will be tricky.

Nothing I'm doing is working. I'd hate to inconvenience you but could you maybe make a test map to show what you're telling me to do? I'm still very new to all this and I'm afraid I need very specific details to achieve anything.

Okay, my bad, but how does that help me with destroying and re-creating a turret actor? My morph ability functions correctly. Do I need to modify something about it to make the attachment work? I'm confused.

I'm am using a morph ability. I based it on Spire > Greater Spire. There aren't any effects fields on abilities :\

I think there may have been a slight miscommunication here. I have 2 towers, one is a Photon Cannon, and the other one is base off the photon cannon and renamed Ion Cannon. The Photon Cannon has an ability that makes it turn into an Ion Cannon.

As for the events, I still don't know how I'm supposed to create the turret actor on the Ion Cannon and destroy it and recreate it again.

    I've tried:
    TurretEnabled.IonCannon
    Create

    ActorCreation
    Destroy

    ActorDestruction
    Create

...and a bunch of variations where I specify the actor in actor.creation and destruction. Nothing worked.

PS: I did manage to get a temporary solution via triggers but that includes removing and creating a new unit, which means I lose any grouping information. Even if there is a way to preserve that, I'd rather find a way to fix the problem inside the data editor since learning it is my aim atm.

PS2: just as a tangent, how do I create a special effect on caster when it ends morphing? I can do it in the trigger editor, but, as always, learning currently learning data :P

Any way I can do that? I have a rather weak internet connection and playing anything has a delay to it, even when I'm facing off against AIs only. It gets very irksome after a while, especially when someone else has to use the net and the connection stutters and whatever annoying problem my net has.
