Wow this is coming along nicely. I love the zealot. The real gem here is that Hybrid though.Very unique. I feel like that is what I imagined a Hybrid kind of looking like when I played the secret mission for the first time.
I LOVE ITS HEAD!
The buildings look great too. I have no idea what any of them do but they inspire curiosity.
I don't know if you checked out the Hybrid mod yet but the harvester I made out of a XN tower doodad from SC2. My inspiration was a similar ship looking tower doodad from the SC1 twilight tile set. I don't think it's coincidence that the styles are so similar. Maybe they did intend on the doodads being XN in origin.
I love this structure. It reminds me of the twilight tile set doodads in SC1 with the curvy shapes. I always assumed those were XN doodads. I can find any pictures but I'm sure you have access to the game.
You make some good points. I don't remember any mention of completing the Zerg but I'll have to read over the manual again as it has been a while. It's hard to tell what from the manual is canon though as there have been retconns. Connecting SC1 and SC2 for a canon conclusion is near impossible.
The more research I do the more disappointed I am in the story for SC2. The Xel'Naga prophecy doesn't make sense. Who carved those pictographs? Was it Duran? If Amon or Ouros was leaving the information how did they do it from the Void? If Amon corrupted the Zerg how did they kill him? Depending on who left the relics, why does the temple on Shakuras wipe out Zerg? The tesserac- I mean "Keystone". Maybe I need to play the game again.
That image just gave me an interesting thought though. That's Duran's Hybrid avatar. Maybe Duran made the pictograph and intended for it to show the next generation of Xel'Naga, which he would believe are his Hybrids.
I'm still not sure how Duran is a Xel'Naga though. If he exists in the void how did he get out when Amon couldn't?
Sorry for the ranting. I just never wanted StarCraft to be Star Wars...
Feedback on your model! I really like how regal and advanced it looks. Slightly feminine, but that might be what you are going for I'm not sure. I say forget SC2 and design whatever fits for you. So far I think what you have makes sense.
I'm not sure if I should post this in the Xel'Naga thread or this one. Well here we go...
My mind has always gone wild thinking about the Hybrid and Xel'Naga after I first played the game in 98 when I was just a kid. There was so much to imagine. What was Duran's goal? Who does he work for? What does a Hybrid look like? What do the bug statues on top of the Xel'Naga temple mean?
Before StarCraft 2 came out I imagined the Xel'Naga looking very much like Protoss as they had purity of form. They would be more sophisticated though. Maybe more eyes, tentacles or even no legs at all like the dark archon. When StarCraft 2 came along we all knew the Xel'Naga would be addressed in some way since the Zeratul scene was shown. This provided exactly what I imagined and I instantly said "Hey, they just showed a Xel'Naga on that wall!". Unfortunately they went another way but I still think that was the original design.
Now I have some evidence but most of this is theory.
An art guy at Blizzard said no Xel'Naga art has been made just after HoTS was released. Naturally you would think that means the prophecy carving isn't a Xel'Naga but the Hybrid Dominator was actually named "Xel'Naga Destroyer" in the editor on WoL release. Which means at some point the Hybrid was supposed to be Xel'Naga. It's likely this changed as a large portion of WoL changed from 2007-2010. It would be infinitely more expensive to change the look of the possible Xel'Naga in the Zeratul scene that had already been released. Thus it is certainly possible that was a Xel'Naga before they changed it. Some argue it is a Hybrid but the prophecy wouldn't make sense showing a Hybrid and it looks completely different. Also in Blizzcon panels they revealed that the stories for each campaign were made up as they went along. There possibly was an original story for the entire game but when they split into three it must have changed as evident in WoL.
So in my opinion the carving fits how I always imagined a Xel'Naga. I believe it changed from that into the squid thing over time because the writers are fans of Lovecraft. Hell they hamfisted a WarCraft story that doesn't belong into StarCraft so why not something else they like.
I also always thought the Hybrid would essentially be an infested Protoss, but less drone like and more intelligent. The StarCraft 2 Hybrid always felt too much like Xel'Naga to me. In fact the Protoss Hybrid (Dominator) looks much nicer and more advanced than any regular Protoss. I'm confused at how Zeratul thought it was an "Abomination".
The Conclave guy gives me SC1 manual concept art vibes which is great. Those hooded guys "baptizing?" Protoss warriors were cool.
The Xel'Naga Consular art looks fantastic. Is this a Protoss guy who specializes is Xel'Naga or a Xel'Naga itself? If Xel'Naga, I love the way it's similar to Protoss instead of being a squid...
Wow this is phenomenal work! I love how you have some of your own elements in there but it's so true to the original as well. I feel like the animations have a lot of his personality. The color temperature in his eyes adds a very classic feeling that all Protoss in SC2 lack.
My favorite lighting is the last one btw. I do still like the others though.
I really like the first picture! It looks so nasty! I am a little confused as to what I am seeing though. Does the first picture morph into the last then?
Either way great work as usual.
One other note I have is that the bed and cerebrate might be too similar in color. It's hard to read what is the cerebrate and what is the bed. Particularly on the top set of spikes highlighted in the attached picture. Maybe lightening the dark brown on the bed might make it easier to distinguish. Just an idea though.
Yeah that's why I was wondering. He just released that but I'm having issues importing particles. I see his SC2 models have particles and his importer says it does but they never come through for me.
Also the textures are out of place sometimes. The normal maps for instance never show up in the material.

I guess I should have figured lol.

I apologize for the wall of text.

I'd go skinnier personally. Too bulky and it'll just look like the SC2 zealot.
Boy does that Tassadar look great. I'm so glad you understand his crested head. A lot of people think it's a helmet/headpiece which drives me nuts.
@Alevice: Go
Ok I don't know what to think about Aldaris now. I've never seen that. He has the biggest face ever now!
@GnaReffotsirk: Go
Yes please!
@GnaReffotsirk: Go
I really like the edits made. Fits in well with the other Zerg buildings.
As far as the creep goes I have no clue. I'll ask around though.

Man I really like Zergund's charge effect. It's nice for the Protoss to have non blue effects lol.
The other tribunal and observatory are coming along great as well. Very classic.

I was wondering if it was just me.

Out of curiosity are you using art tools and Taylor's import scripts?
@AlexO6: Go
No I understand, I was just pointing it out. I also did a portrait but it is a kitbash too.
@GnaReffotsirk: Go
Coming along really well man. It fits right in with the rest of the buildings.
