Eh, I'm not too angry, just when people come across as complete jerks and are not open to anyone Else's opinion but there own. I don't mind people being gay, I surely don't support it though, but its there choice. I don't mind having a nice discussion over something like this but when someone says something like "No, I think I'll wait until you make a 3rd post saying you're too stupid to understand," it really pisses me off.
Which is why my post was worded as an "in general", and not directed fully at you =P
Not trying to sound rude, dang internet does not convey emotions. I'm just pretty pissed that Tolkfan is acting like a complete idiot, I really don't want to act like good-two-shoes to him. U.U
Which is why I mentioned platonic discussions; why would you be pissed at Tolkfan for having an opinion? He doesn't really have any influence in your life, so why would you care? There's people out there who'd like to burn all gays if they could - are you pissed at them too? You must spend a lot of time being angry =P. Feel free to point out close-mindedness, but try to stay as objective as possible. While I'm usually a fan of uttering emotions, it tends to be the people flaming who have the problem. We can have discussions without calling anyone anything through viewing 'opinions' loose from their posters.
Enough philosophical crap now though, continue with the thread.
I am sorry to hear that. I hope your country get rid of monarchy as soon as possible.
I didn't mean it like that, tbf. I'm not particularly fond of our royal house, but they have done a lot of good for the country as well. I don't like the idea of "nobles" in the 21st century any more than you do, but I'm just saying it's not all bad.
That said, play nice, people. Platonic discussions are the only ones worth having :D
Yeah, I know, they're like mascots. They don't do anything at all, don't have any responsibilities and get to live in a palace just because they're "royalty" :S
Middle Ages that way - - - ->
I'm not too sure about England, but here in Holland the queen actually has quite a lot of impact on what happens. She and her 'advisors' have so much impact that they are rarely ignored when a parliament is formed. It happens of course, but she's been called "the only man in the Dutch government" multiple times. That's not to say she decides everything that goes on, though.
That's what I meant with the last bit. Normally, I don't really care either way. I see a lot of people priding themselves on "being informed" by "watching the news", but aside from a few basic facts, 'watching the news' barely serves a function anymore. How many of you have recently changed their lives in some way because of something they saw on the news? The only 'function' it serves is that it allows people to create opinions on stuff, but the problem is that it does this badly - if you form your opinion solely based on what you've seen on the news, you're horribly uninformed.
Because of all this, I barely watch any news myself and tend to not care (20 deaths in Marrakech? Whatever, it'll be forgotten in a couple of days), but even then I think it is somewhat sad that you have to dig through piles of "OOOOH A PRINCE IS GETTING MARRIED :D" before you can find news on human deaths.

It's rather ridiculous, yeah. Did you guys know there was a terrorist attack in Marrakech on a touristy café? There were between 10 and 20 wounded/dead. Yesterday I was at the GF's, and she had actually dined there one or two years ago. We were trying to find news information on it but all we could find on EVERY kind of news (Dutch news, Dutch youth news, BBC, CNN) was annoying stuff on this ridiculous wedding. People talking about how they were hoping to see a big smack on the lips in public and stuff like that. And when we actually found a 15 second film on it on the internet, we had to watch a 20 second add first.
I normally don't care for the news at all, but... priorities much?
