On top of what Corbo said, assigning mods would be a real issue. Only the guys I listed in my previous post can actually promote people to that role, and I wouldn't know how to get in contact with any of them. I suppose if we really pursued the issue we may be able to get it done; ex-Mapster mod Molsterr has been working for Curse for a long time and I'm sure he'd be able to get the ball, or at least a marble rolling for us. The question is to what extent it is worth it. I'm not even sure who we'd want as additional moderators.
I thought he made Diablofans and then curse bought diablofans but contracted him to lead the site, then was offered to make SC2Mapster as part of the curse network but when he quitted from DFans his curse contract got terminated (obviously).
It's simply what I remember from back in the day. I haven't been around since Mapster's inception, but I joined when it was still pretty young. Back then Sixen and Vjeux were in firm control of the site, and Curse wasn't mentioned in any way until a couple months in. Here's some old threads about it. My memory may be a bit fuzzy, but I don't believe Curse was involved at first.
Wait, you're telling me there's no actual person on this board who has admin powers? Are you joking? I thought Sixen et all were admins?
Sixen was an admin, a long time ago. He sold the site to Curse, stayed on for quite a while as a paid Curse employee, and was then told he was going to lose his admin status because Curse no longer wanted to pay him. AFAIK he then had a talk with Curse and stayed on for free, but I still believe he's lost his admin privileges. I can ban his account, anyway, I know that much (Edit: I don't know how much that says, actually, I can ban every single Curse employee listed below). He hasn't really been around for ages either way and only ever still updates the front page with news occasionally, aside from doing some general maintenance/bot banning. Looking at his log, he did two things on April 28, two things on April 10, and some more things on April 7.
The Curse admins assigned to Mapster are Kaelten, Torhal and Prencher. The latter did some random site security updates on March 5 (but hasn't been here since February before that), Kaelten is around even less than Sixen and though Torhal is banning spammers on a daily basis, he has never even communicated with the mod team, AFAIK.
Turn on moderator preview for new accounts. I've only said it like 3 times.
And I've opposed the idea every single time. I'd rather deal with a couple of spam topics on a bi-daily basis than force people who are looking for help or a community to wait until one of us has the time to get back to them. And even then, we'll likely also accept spam accounts as the difference is impossible to tell without any posts made.
That said: it's a moot point. Not because the forum software doesn't allow it, but because we can't turn it on. We being the moderators. I'm sure a Curse administrator could.
I wouldn't mind moving, but I'm as much against as I am in favour of the idea: I don't have the money nor code knowledge to set something new up and could only contribute by moderating... so I'll move if it makes sense to do so, but I can't "make this happen".
I kinda shy away from blaming curse for this stuff, because they're clearly running this place at a loss.
I'm not so sure about that. Mapster isn't big and the database isn't all that full of stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if they could just chuck all of the stuff on a server they'd have standing around anyway. Regardless, claiming to support a site and then never bothering to fix basic issues is unfair to all parties involved.
The sad thing is, I don't even know if reporting does anything. It doesn't for me, either way. Curse is just very absent because they don't want to put energy into a low traffic site, it seems. The forum has multiple similar issues. For example, mods can only change the password on an account if they also have the original password; meaning this completely beats the point when it comes to manual password resets. If someone forgets his password and can't reset it through e-mail, he's effectively fucked and there's nothing we can do about it. We try to do what we can by banning spambots and posting for Curse's attention, but I don't even remember the last time anyone from the company popped up.
