although I'm sure the reasons for doing a french site are perfectly innocent, i really do think cultures should learn to change a little. french people a lot of the time like to speak french because they are stubborn and dont want to speak english etc because they are in a strop about it and think they are 'losing part of their culture', the fact of the matter is, languages like french are largely obsolete, and don't benefit the community as much as that site would in say english etc.
i do understand that is offensive, but don't take this as an english person, wishing you would speak english, i personally couldnt care less. I would just rather everyone spoke the same language, as it means I could communicate with more people, utilise more information from different cultures and places and many many other things. if this 'world' language turned out to be dutch for example, then i'd learn dutch like everyone else and english to me wouldnt exist any more as i would have no use for it.
You either heard some french politics or just using plain stereotypes of France. True that some people think like this, but in any country you'll find the same conservative talk, and such image can't fit the whole population of a single country.
While I using english is definitivly not digging France's culture and that France have problems in its education program about speaking another language, I find the whole "languages are french are obsolete" both insulting and thoughtless.
Language refrains thoughts. Speaking a language is actually a great deal to the way you're thinking. For exemple, russians people have very good recognitions of color, whereas english-speaking people have not. Why ? Because russians people have a much larger vocabulary about colors.
Why do you think people still study extinct languages like latin and ancient greek ?
I do not consider myself as a hard french defenders (I'm polish/french/venezuelian) but I do speak 3 languages and my parents speaks 5 :
my point is that all languages commands different way of thinking, and that if everyone spoke the same language, that would actually make us very likely to think alike. To me, that would be terrible to the human collective sight. (see 1984 novel, where governement plans to unify the thought of the masses by inventing an universal and simple language)
I often surprise myself thinking in spanish, or english, or french, and having to speak differents languages is, to me, a way to have a clearer point of view and multiple way of thinking.
i would however vote for english or spanish as the world language as music is a huge part of my life and i think music translates much better into those languages ;-)
oh and im well aware this world language wont happen so good luck with your site anyway! but do try to continue sharing your knowledge in english as well (as i've seen you do before) as it will ultimately benefit more people =)
See, spanish and english musics can be both great because they have both their specific traits ! French songs, imo, are really hard to compose for the french language is a bit complicated and does not flow like english or spanish. Translate any good songs might it be by a rapper or the Beatles in french, it just sounds plain ridiculous. But if people try hard enough (and not try to imitate american songs with french lyrics that give shitty songs these days) it can be really beautiful in its own way.
Btw imo I think france language is better for poetry than songs.
