Due to banking restrictions the crystarium system is being reworked. i would not be able to save every time. also the number of saves per person is going to be significantly lowered to a unknown number at this time. i can give you more information about this when battle net is released out of beta.

To be honest, I think 3 would be a fair amount of save slots. Maybe 2 if you really need to cut on it.
Guys! good news Terrain work has been reviled for the starting zone "The Hanging edge" on Cacoon. Check out the front page for all the amazing preview pictures done by our very talented terrain artist Moske!
Hey Neo... it's onetwo; few questions (working on an RPG too):
1. For items saved on heroes... do you basically have to store their items in a global var every time they pick one up? Is there an event for this (outside of unit acquires target and target filter == item)? Also their level/class probably has to be stored too...
2. For saving/loading... I'm going to be storing levels, minerals, vespene, abilities chosen and rank of each abil, class, and on top of all this, items. I'll clunk it all into a hex code like HJ8SSD31KMVJW88 for instance... with some anti-cheating checks. And I'd like to be able to store 3 heroes, so hex-code times 3... do you think this will fit into the current multiplayer size of banks? Is the limit 80 or w/e? If everything is clumped into a string will it be okay you think? Just interested in what you'll be doing for this... as I haven't even begun putting save/load to work yet until I can figure this out :D
Why port final fantasy xiii over to sc2? I thought the game was one of the worst (if not thee worst, I think final fantasy 8 holds that title). You guys should of just done something more original, or perhaps tried to remake one of the classic games (like Final Fantasy 6).

the way i am doing items is i am storing the items names in a global array. so every time someone picks up an items it is added to the array and reflected in the custom inventory UI. I am using triggers for the entire system so anything that is considered equip i am giving the hero a "Buff" if it is in that particular spot in the array. it's quite simple system actually. there are no physical items at all, everything it tracked through triggers and arrays.
I am doing the exact same thing for my saving i am putting all my stored values into a one string and using each bit as a "index" for a item or attribute. the only thing is there is a 800 character max amongst all banks. So if you have a 12 player RPG (i might have to change the number of players to 8 because of this limitation) so you would have to divide 800 by 12 gives you roughly 77 characters per player. so if you have 3 saves it will give you 25 characters per save.
this is a HUGE problem for me and i hope they increase it. I have started to work on other aspects of the map because of these limitations. the way i figure it i have to have have to following
1 Character for save number
16 Characters for my skill tree
2 Characters for my hero name
Each items slot is 3 Characters
and each quest saved as done is 3 characters
i will have most quests repeatable and rewards adjusted to the heroes progress through their crystarium. the only quests i plan on saving are the ones that increase your crystarium level (12 of those) 1 quest to get your summon and 2 quests for additional accessory slots.
Now if you do the math 15 quests at 3 characters a quest that alone is 45 characters.
add 1 for save spot number 2 for the players hero name and 16 for skill tree you are at 64 characters without saving ANY items. so here inlys your problem.
this is why i plan to wait to do any more work on this until the next phase of beta to see if they increase these limitations.
also my anti cheat takes up 5 characters (if that finds any discrepancies it erases the entire bank file contents.)

matter of opinion, some people like sea food and some people don't, also the challenge of re-creating such a complex game. If you want something original maybe you should start your own project =)
There will be a name change and a face lift coming to the game, after some events this morning i talked with a couple friends that are layers and they say it should be done, that the map may not be allowed on the blizzard server for copyright reasons. even the contest that I am holding could be seen as an infringement on Square Enix copyright and should probably be taken down, if not Square Enix would have the right to sew me, Curse and anyone who reproduced copyright material (ie. anyone who participated in the contest.) Due to these reasons i do not want to get anyone in trouble.
I thought that using the name would be not problem seeing how in the past Final fantasy was always reproduced into a blizzard game somehow. But this morning my videos of the game where taken down by Vemio (if you look at the front page the videos are inactive) Someone from Square Enix had requested to Vimeo that the videos be taken down, and they did to avoid legal action. they even added a clause in their video uploading screen to cover these things from hence fourth. So like i said because of these events the game has to be changed and needs a face lift. the menus will stay the same but things will be re-worded and pictures will be changed.
The lawyers however said i can indeed say it is a final fantasy - type map =)
the change will happen over the next couple days. the systems will be the same just with a face life and name changes. more news to come.
Ah, interesting note about the banking... I decided not to save quests for mine... so players can rehost and do boss quests etc... I guess more replayability anyway. But I'll need (at bare minimum):
1 char for save slot
1 char for class
1 char for level (only 30 hero-levels in my map)
1 char to approximately store exp of the current level
7 chars for hero abilities
72 chars for hero items (36 item slots * 2 chars per slot assuming i don't go over 1296 item types)
3 chars for minerals (minerals are my "gold")
2 chars for vespene (vespene is my "silver" -> max of 99)
PLUS w/e needed for security/anti-cheat.
And then times this by 3 for 3 save slots... yikes.
The issue really is items. I want players to be able to have 32 item slots + 4 equip slots, plus w/e bags they can purchase in future... but the limit is going to hamper this ><. The easiest way I can think to get out of this is to just tell the player that only their 4 equipped items will be saved... but that's so 2003! lol.
lol i know it's terrible. i hope that they increase the size limitations, because they are terrible. I really do not want oto turn around and say ok you can only have 1 character saved at a time so you have to move bank files around on your file system for whatever character you may feel like playing that day lol
but if worst comes to worse i will lower max players to 8.

I can't seem to find any action that would change the frame of a dialog. The Set Dialog Background Image doesn't do anything related to the frame.

Not sure if the character's size are scaled right. Great job on the terrain design though!

Yeah the scaling on it is perfect acctually.

So regarding the face lift and name changing... Are we trying to build a new set of characters or are we distorting their faces?
These are just coming from my head but I think it's worth the laugh:
Snow - Blizzard
Lightning - Storm
Hope - Faith
Vanille - Vanilla
Fang - Claw
Vivi - Experiment 6-6
LOL i love it hahahha yeah i might even use those HAHAHAHA. don't sew me!
haha i won't. Sazh is going to be difficult to rename because his name has no literal meaning. I guess Zash would do?
O.o are you working on this whole map all by yourself???
FF13 name's were horrible anyway. You could simply slyly mimic them like Darkforce said.. But why not give them cool names instead?
