Im looking for people in Europe battle net to help me do very first tests of my brand new map before i throw it to public.
To anyone who dont know the idea of The Thing:
Its basically survival map where from all players 1 random player becomes the Thing and have to murder all the others. The point is that noone knows who is the Thing untill he make mistake. I have seen requests for such map on EU forums so i decided i will do it. I did not played the original one in SC1 but i have created my own gameplay based on the major concept.
I need at least 1 person that would like to help me testing - the first tests means more testing and not really playing the map :) I just need to make sure everything works when human players are on the map insetad of me alone with AI. So it would require a bit of patience for me to do the quickfixes and restarting the game.
All i can offer is my gratitude and credit tho. Unless someone will be willing to cooperate with this project. I could use help of someone very skilled with triggers and even more someone skilled with data editor.
How do i imagine that tests:
1. Whenever i see someone from people that will volonteer online, i will invite you for the test
2. First we will test the very major triggers with thing random selection, mutation into thing, alliances braking.
3. We will test all the other things like security cameras, spawns, skills etc.
4. Victory and defeat triggers.
5. Stress tests against leavers before map loads. - Here we will need more than 2 people tho.
6. We can discuss balance and ideas.
sounds fun.. always played other versions of the thing in wc3, just add me to FL and ask me if needed.. even though direct chat in IRC most probably has a higher chance of reaching me (greedape in IRC)
Can you tell me what made the sc1 The Thing so remarkable for you? I did not played it, and woudlnt like to miss such stuff for future players of my version :) I mean, any other stuff than obvious thrill of not knowing who to trust and who is the murderer :)
Hi - I played your map several times now and I really like it. There are a few suggestions I have (just signed up, just for this ;)) - maybe you'd like them, too:
The Chat: Don't know, if this is doable, but it would be awesome if the chat worked only in a specific radius. So if I'm the thing and kill a lonesome survivor his screams and accusations won't be heard by anyone. Maybe you could disable the normal Chat and instead let the text pop out over the head of the speaking survivor, or something...
Some other little gameplaystuff: Disable unitsharing, it just breaks the concept of the game. And maybe don't send any message when someone dies, especially not the paranoia-ones. They always proof the teamkiller to not be the thing. Or only send anonymous messages: "Another survivor fell...". On the other hand, if a thing is beeing killed, I think the playername can be given. One last thing, here - is it wanted, that dead players can use the infested to attack the thing in thing-form? Maybe I just have another picture of their role, but I think, they should team up (or be forced, to).
One thing concerning balance: I think auto turrets are not good, the way they are atm. Build two of them in the top left corner, as soon as you can afford and you'll have a steady and very high income allowing you, to build turrets at many other spawning positions and run around without fear of anything... Their are several possibilities to fix this. The one, I like most is not giving income for towerkills - in exchange one could make them a little stronger, or let them level, too. In any case, their purpose would remain a defensive one, you couldn't afford to build many, there was no fight for the best towerplaces (the last games I had, I ran around solo, because you do not really need a "team", in contrary, it's much better to have your towers spread over the map and get most of the kills). Another was, to just make towers more expensive, but I think that would not really deal with the problem...
Hopefully this is an ok place, to post opinions, I'm looking forward to see the map evolve. :)
Really like it, though your Terrain has a few lackings and the Balance is still off.
You're having a Space Station I assume, so you should place a few bulkheads that open/close. No space-meant ship/station would make the failure to have nothing to lock down different areas should they be exposed to vacuum. Also, try to add some Windows on the outer area. If you've areas where the marines can walk around in their suits on the stations outside, maybe make aliens float away to death there. But also limit the marines air, so they can't camp those spots. Just try to clean your terrain up a lot more, currently its looking decent, but you can make it better. Also don't randomly place Omnis. Have a Lightsource for your light. Nothing is just red or blue magically.
Balance & Gameplay:
The Thing is too weak against Auto-Turret spam. You have nearly no change to take down a survivor if he is holed up. Especially in the upper left corner. Just limit the number of turrets per survivor. Or make the Thing evolve like in Parasite.
Currently players don't really need to play together. They can simply bunker down alone and wait it out. This is bad. Try to bring your gameplay more to teamplay. Have maybe objectives, like random power-shortages 'n stuff where you need people to actually do something else besides trying to hide out. Or have them search for food on the station. Hand them a flashlight and make some areas really dark. Get them to feel the fear of an alien running loose. Currently when I see the Thing I go all like "*lol* Look its a Thing. Here, eat my grenade. Here, Auto-Turret to your face. And another grenade. Burrow? Ha! Sat-Scan! DIE! *Thing explodes - game is over*"
Maybe reduce the number of infected and make them stronger. Also make them spawn more logically. Sometimes they just pop up. Have some kind of entrance where they come out or at least let them spawn in a gush of blood from a bodybag.
hi guys. i played this map. that was really nice. but now it sucks. new rules. i mean. u can transform other players only in aberration form. it is too hard. everybody complains about it. if u r the thing only what u can do is just kill guys... not transform.
ah so there is a way to still transform them? wtf i came here because i wanted to ask if the game is broken or something.
actually the last version was more fun.
and please reduce the cost of scannersweeps i mean honestly you need to kill 10 creep for one sweep i mean wtf?
anyway still like the game alot. but could you kinda enlarge the map or something and please if a dead player controls units make them unselectable to others as long as they are selected i mean i had games with about 300 kills because the dead guys controlled the infested in a way they just acted as cannonfooder for me... a few complained they wanted to finally kill me but others just kept sending them around with moves so i leveled up long time. well was funny to watch but i guess not intentional.
humans have almost nothing to do evryone always tries to find the thing and die for it give us things like more weapons difrent suits etc also make chat only noticed in close range remove pings and the mineral loss when u kill a player *blah* theres a team killing bastard on the loose and i cant kill him... oh and instead of when u die u become a thing you should get 30 hp to the amount of hp u had at the last hit (eg if the thing snipes u at 70 hp ud have 100 hp) and a stim buff over your head so they think ur just healing

well i got infected and could not infect others. and my grenades and my snipe don't do much damage at all anymore so wtf is wrong here?
i mean honestly a grenade for about 10% of an infested life? the only thing the thing needs to do is wait untill enugh of them spawned wait like borrowed somewhere. how boring is that.
that patch 1.26 was a big drawback imho.
plus if somebody killed player... everybody see who did it. thats stupid because thing in that case has no chance to kill anybody as marine. as normal form u cant kill players. thats too hard. this form is too slow.
