Hey guys. So I'm finally finished with my remake of the popular Starcraft1 custom game. Here's a quick rundown of what goes on.
Gameplay:
- The Uruk-hai and Saruman have to break through the defenses of Helms Deep and kill the civilians
- The defenders of Helms Deep win by killing Saruman and Ugluk
- There are 3 heroes to play (Gimli, Aragorn, and Legolas)
- Each main faction gets their own heroes
- Helms Deep is separated in sections sealed off by gates that you can lower and raise
- When a gate hinge is destroyed next to a gate, the gate is permanently lowered
Some special features I added:
- Ported over Dark Swarm and Hallucination as they worked in Starcraft1
- Spawn system for Elves and Rohan player
- Custom mass attack system (move observer where you want to mass and use mass attack ability)
The map really needs to be balanced at this stage of its life. But it's hard to balance it without a full game and skilled players! If you have input I'd greatly appreciate it since it's fairly rough right now. Also, some weapons aren't named and the map isn't very polished overall at this point. I'll fix that down the road.
If you could help get my map popularity up I'd greatly appreciate it since it's currently at the very bottom.
Known bugs:
- Goliath air attack models screwed up
- Various sounds for units are missing
- Ladders sometimes stack
I saw this map at the bottom (I always scan through for LOTR products between games) but haven't had a chance to play it. I'd be glad to play a few rounds with anyone willing to play with me.

That would be awesome. I plan on releasing an update to make it more user friendly since a lot of people don't see to understand how the massing system works. Basically I have an obeserver with two dummy abilities, and when they are used a trigger detects them and orders your unit to attack to the masser. Maybe I could make the observer be selected by default at the start of the game and flash a text message or two to explain it.
If you can get a few other people together, I'd be glad to play-test it right now.
Edit: I just managed to get in a game with it, and uh.... there were some serious problems.
The team selection at the beginning was a big problem. I picked the same team (Uruk-Hai) as another player, and as a result, I was turned into a spectator. You should try and organize that in either the pre-game lobby, or have the selection menu block people selecting the same option.
Also, the game ended in about 5 seconds due to everyone dying quickly, including Ugluk. I do not know if that is because he was Massed with the creeps, or because the guy playing really sucked and got him killed.
Hmm, that is very strange. I've never had that problem on any of my playtests (being able to pick the same team as someone else). The team selection dialog is something I had to throw together after I realized you can't just pick your team in the lobby before the game starts like in SC1/WC3.
And Ugluk is one of the strongest units in the game, the only way he could've died is if he massed him straight in and wasn't paying any attention. He has like 4500 life and 40 armor, which is almost double normal heroes. It's been hard getting people together to work kinks out since I only have 3-4 idle friends online at a time, so I'll definitely try to get in touch with your the next couple days to get some more games in.
I'm working on making it clearer to people what the rules of the game are. I released this version to people who played the old version so some people might not know that Saruman and Ugluk can't die.
I made some minor adjustments last night to your map (mostly trying to figure out how to get it to work). I tried to add Perdition Turrets (Hot Oil, I R So Original!) but they kept exploding on start. I do not know if that is because the player they were assigned to didn't exist or because of some other feature I overlooked.
I also changed the "bad guys die" trigger in an attempt to reduce lag. It now only responds to when either Ugluk or Saruman die.

Did it reduce the lag at all? I wasn't sure if that trigger was still giving me lag problems or not and had an idea to fix it, so I'll have to compare it to your idea after.
Just wanted to say that I released a major update for polishing the game. The game is complete and just needs some polishing here and there. Will post a video of basic gameplay soon.

Will update with some screenshots.

Could you make a small youtube video of your map? I'd be really glad to news it so people can play your map!

I can't test lag without a game to play it.
I'll be on tomorrow to test, can't tonight. :S
