I am looking for some type of plugin to allow me to use M3 models in autocad 2011 or solidworks 2010. Autocad is preferred but either would be awesome.
Currently there are no plugins that I am aware of that will allow you to import an M3 file into AutoCAD or SolidWorks (unless either of them support maxscript, which I'm pretty certain they dont). Your best bet is to use 3DS Max to import the M3 file using NiNToxicated01's tools and then export it from there to a file type that AutoCAD supports. It would be a bit of a mess I'd imagine, but it should work mostly. If you dont have 3DS Max, you can always get a 30 day trial free from Autodesk.
Ahh, i was unaware of the 30 day trial. I guess i just assumed i'd have to pirate it. A different question that may reduce the amount of stuff i have to download; Video and image conversion software is everywhere. Are there any FREE applications that will allow me to convert m3's into 3dm's or another file format that's usable in autocad, and then back when i'm done?
