I've been wanting to make a map in SC2 to discover its new capabilities. I have only made maps in SC1 with the scmdraft 2 but have made more than my fair share of maps. So I decided to try my hand at SC2 map making and I was always intrigued with AI. I always really loved the maps in SC1 where there were gods and normal players and gods could gift the players weapons if they chose to.
So I wanted to make a map where you as the player, have at your hand, any weapon, resource and unit and can gift your "subjects" as you could in SC1. Except in this case the subjects are AI. The idea itself is not difficult to implement but may prove to be tedious with the repeated scenario boxes of every item and person.
Now I had planned to make this entirely for myself just cause i'm manipulative that way and need to compensate for... -. However I thought I might share this with some people and maybe gather some new ideas and see if anyone else might want the final product.
Lets see how this goes.
(Note: Good or bad responses, i'm still making this for myself regardless so don't tell me "nobody would fuckin' like that shitty idea")
You mean, like in those maps where 1 player is the god and all other players play regularily and the god can do as he pleases, and totally screw up or benefit single players? But instead of players, you use AIs duking it out, and every player has his own god? Like in, lets say, Black & White?
I can say that I would fukin' like that shitty idea ;)
Could be fun, if well executed. The 1 god rest regulars principle usually suffered from everyone wanting to be god and all the others to be quite bored, so I like the concept of "babysitting" an AI instead.
I originally mean't it to be a one player map with only 1 god but I like your idea better.
However pitting gods against each other means they can't be invincible. I'm a casual gamer and this is supposed to be the most casual game in the world. There would need to be some sort of limitation then.
I love the idea, i'm also a big ai fan and i'm in the process of learning ai scripting which is difficult since there is actually not a single guide or article about the subject. I would love to see a finished map of your concept though, best of luck <3:D
like u need to build a town centre and hosues to get bigger citys and more workers etc would be nice loved to play black and white
maybe u can make the same with a pet that represents u like a zergling that grows with feedingand get good or bad how u interact with everything but i know how much work this will be

Does ai scripting involve Galaxy programming? I can program in VB and C+.+ so i'm quite interested in this Galaxy programming language. If it does I think ai programming would enable loads further in being a god. Imagine if we could program the AI to send surplus minerals and gas as offerings or create a happiness meter which causes them to attack the gates of Olympus (Clash of the Titans style).

You could take control over a small terran civilization and grow it to take out the enemy. Preety much like BW, you could be evil or good and whatnot. The creature from BW would be cool to add.

I was actually thinking, what if there were only 2 AI. 1v1. This gives them much more room to expand and grow and may lead to interesting and expansive cities. AI scripting may end up being the key here.
Well it depends happy, i'm pretty sure you can script an ai with the galaxy programming language. I'm honestly just to dumb to figure it out, i've just begun working with the editor and "scripting" an ai, i actually had a pretty simmilar idea compared to what you wrote and i'm currently working on that! Or at least working my way towards being able to script an ai, which is the first step, kind of useless to "control an ai" that sucks, or can't do the things i want to.
And yeah i like your gameplay ideas! they are great! You should do like me and write down all the features and stuff you want to add to your map, then start working them out one by one, remember to make backup copies of your map and stuff, i just lost a few hours of work because of my inexperience and not backing up -.-
However, the lack of ai related topics on this forum makes me want to stick together with someone of simmilar interests, if you feel like it i can PM you my contact details maybe we can help eachother out?
Yeah i figure it's because they want to keep stuff that offends people off the bnet :P yeah yeah i know, but we all get offended by different things and there are actually people getting offended by pretty weird things :( It's just the way it is and we have to accept it :P

Yeah the AI scripting will be a challenge. I'm looking around the Galaxy scripting forum area to see if anyone has shed some light on the fact. I'm also trying to learn the syntax of Galaxy because its slightly different and I fear if it doesn't point out errors and I have to look through it line by line.
