Galaxy Tactics is a multiplayer, vs/co-op integrated project that will span multiple actual maps, but using a mod to tie them all together. The goal of the project is to create an interactive, turn-based tactical game to the list that's never been done before, or at least, has never been done "well". The end result will include customizable and persistent armies of up to 16 units (subject to change) per player.
There will be two sides to the game, PVP, which involves players teaming up their armies to fight other player's armies, and PVE, which features co-op missions, campaigns, and even solo play options for levelling up your army's units.
Features/Customizability
Up to 16 customizable units per player.
Each unit can talent spec from 3 trees (Support, Attack, Defensive), making every class versatile and viable in every way.
Each unit can increase specific stats, leaving no class tied to one role.
Each unit can be named
Each unit can level up to 20
Each unit can have equippable items (aka "focii" or "focus runes") which increase base stats or add other elements to their abilities and attacks
Gameplay
Free-roaming movement system (not tile/hex/square based)
Environmental factors such as partial cover, height advantage/disadvantage, positional advantages (side/back attacks)
Initiative-based turn system, not player-by-player turn system. Every unit has its own initiative and position on the action queue
Commander rank system, increase your command rank by winning PVP games
PVE campaigns and co-op features spanning multiple chapters
Fully customized UI
Skill measured by player's tactical decisions, choosing your calculated risks wisely. Levels will not be game-breaking, unit levelling relatively easy.
About the Author
Hi, I'm Mephs. You might remember me from such legendary maps as Left4Death, and Smashcraft. Galaxy Tactics, my latest project, will break all the boundaries of my previous work and really leave its mark on the custom map scene. I'm highly skilled at using the editor, and am searching for someone equally as talented, or at least willing to put forth the effort it takes to learn and become a top level mapper/designer.
My Skills/Talents
Extensive programming background
Expert trigger editing
Expert data editing
Expert visual effects/actor design
14+ years amateur game design and gaming (RPGs, competitive games)
UI programming/development
Intermediate Graphic Design
Moderate-Intermediate Terrain design
What I'm looking for
I'm looking for one extensively talented individual to join me on this project. What I expect of you:
High level of knowledge and competency in at least data/trigger editting
Strong sense of game design
Lots of time to dedicate to the project
A passion for tactical games
A passion for mildly competitive games
Strong organizational skills and ability to edit in a modular/object oriented fashion
Ability to listen and follow directions
Ability to form strong ideas and arguments as to why I might be wrong about a design element and assert your own ideas as well
Ability to tolerate a stubborn, jaded old coot of a developer.
Ability to be a fucking ninja at everything you do.
Relatively Important Details
I am 26, tend to troll a lot when I feel like it, and have a high standard of excellence with my work. If you don't have thick skin, can't take mildly immature joking, then I don't want anything to do with you. If you can't meet the standard of excellence I want to see in my (our) map project, I do not want anything to do with you on this project. But if you want to be part of an awesome project, work with a picky, stubborn, and detail oriented editor ninja, then I'm willing to give you a shot at this.
I'm on US time, MST to be exact, so things might go more smoothly if you are around at the weird hours I keep. Being from US is not a requirement, but I need someone who can collaborate fairly often and get some hands-on in the project. I can't stress enough how much I need you to be up to par with what I'm looking to produce. This is not a 5-hour shitty map project, I only want someone willing and able to put out their most awesome work, and stick with the project on a longer-term basis. Of course, I can do everything myself, but the scope of the project will dictate that this will take a lot more time than I've had to dedicate to my past projects, so an extra set of talented hands would be great.
Most of the collaboration will consist of design brainstorming, "idea" trading if you will, then development of a goal, and releasing each other to work on achieving that goal, then collaborating again once we have met those goals, to repeat the process. Preferrably you should be a self-starter, and be able to work and produce high quality results on your own.
Interested?
Leave me a PM or a message on this thread. Please include the name of your custom map projects currently published on Battle.NET, or at least a link to any major projects or achievements you are involved in. Something I can relate your abilities to, at the very least. Also post how much free time you have, how tied up you see yourself being, how much you feel you could contribute to the project, anything that would help me decide if you are a good fit for the project.
Brownie points for highly skilled terrainers or graphic artists, and if you're relatively talented at modelling, we could really step up this project another notch since blizzard doubled the map size limits again. Look forward to working with you, whoever you are.
Another game from our Pony, Blazblue, Alseir and Troll lovin Mephs. Into RPG's this time aren't yeh =3. Would like to join, but I'm sure I don't have the time and skill to make anything interesting ^_^.
I may not be as skilled as yourself but I do have the basic knowledge and understanding required, I'd love to help out where I can. No credits or acknowledgment required I'd just like the experience, so that I can learn and further develop my own projects. I can do basic model and skin editing, I'm above average in triggers, have basic understanding of Galaxy scripting, and understand the basics and some advanced features of the Data editor. I won't lie, I probably won't be able to produce highly complicated coding and data on my own, but I guarantee I'll be able to understand, duplicate, edit, assist and fine tune all you'd like. I also have a lot of time to work on it so let me know if there's anything I can do to assist.
I'm probably not co-developer material, at least not yet, but I would love to be a helpful addition to the team!
I don't have any SC2 projects developed, but I have some old war3 maps I did a lot of work on.
