Okay so after playing the SCII beta and winning alot of my games (Bragging note: i was in diamond 1v1) i have yet to see an enemy player ever use a banling, and before i was in the beta using lazy launch i tried out these banlings and found that they kinda suck (from what i saw) i wana hear from you guys, what is the point of these squishy sacks of acid? why use them? have you guys had succes using them or have you been killed by them? The concept of banlings is so cool it would suck to have them be this bad
They deal immense damage to walls & light units,
can be used as mines - yes mines - burrow & explode <3
they are awesome - and i mean this awesome :
they are highly effective against wall-ins, even with siege tanks (just have to use a meatshield to get the fire on distracted)
early beta (where 3Marines:Marauders was pure-win for terrans) they just made Blopp 1/4 army still there
drop them into eco
block new expansions for the enemie (banes burrowed in minerals)
They are useful - if used correctly and microed
Ah and the last reason for their existance: Everyone now wants a baneling plushie.
@xhatix: Go
humm, well i guess, it sounds like it is a good strat, i guess Ive just never seen them used to their potential. It seems as though, if you were to attack with banelings early, the teching to them puts you behind, and all the damage you could do with a baneling is also accomplished with your run of the mill zergling, they are faster, (dont recall about the health difference) if you burrow lings in minerals, then they can pop up and take out workers in not much more time than a banling could.
But MINES? can the asp-lode while underground? i am looking forward to getting my face pwnt by some stronger zerg players with these things.
I love the concept of a baneling as well lol. lil squishy acid bombs.
But i will never forget the original zerg suicide unit, the infested Terran. What is the point of the Infested Terran in the zerg tech? its not like its cost effective to drop a ton from your overseers, is it? when would the zerg require such a unit?
in high level Z v Z matches it seems that baneling micro determined the outcome of the game. who could kill the most zerglings with a single baneling would win.
Banelings are viable in ZvZ if you can get some before the opponent gets roaches. Kill his zerglings, push and blow up his pool or warren ftw.
They're also supposed to be used to break through terran walls, but I've never seen this work. It would work in theory, because it's an easy switch from mass zerglings and if you do it while he's still sitting in his base and turtling to marauders you can take out the depots in his wall and supply block him. The problem is that there's only so much damage you can do with your handful of remaining zerglings and he'll just build the depots right back before your next wave of zerglings gets there.
The nice thing about it vs terran is that you can hide it pretty well though. Banelings emerge as zerglings, can be morphed at his doorstep, and you can tumor your way to a corner and put the nest there so when he scans all he sees is mass zerglings.
Obviously they're useless vs P.
......
Infested terrans are completely worthless and should be ignored. Blizzard didn't want to delete the spell because it has campaign significance. How you're supposed to just float an overseer over their base without having it immediately shot down is not clear. And if you manage to do so, just make a changeling instead.

I would always go with a zealot rush and if it failed tech to air asap, so i guess i never really gave my enemies a chance to effectively use banlings
i look forward to these up and coming units, it will be fun to see how i can use them and how others can use them against me.
BLings would also be good against a very zealot heavy army, since lots are light too.
But versus Terran bio they're just outrageous. Just move them through the enemy and watch them turn into green goo :]
You just need to be careful not to use too many blings or you won't have a cost efficient trade-off anymore.
And in ZvZ with, esp on one-base, it's a total micro war with BLings.
I haven't really used them myself.. except for some bling busts. I prefer good old 2-base hydra/roach/ling macro :]

Yeah I had good luck with them breaking early terran wall-ins. Hadn't considered putting them in mineral lines though, I'll have to use that one.

@BrotherLaz: Go Maybe thats why i have never seen them used well against me, i am Protoss all the way
@Antimatterthunder: Go
well only good against sentries, where forcefield mostly protect them
but i also have used them against toss wallin pylons and/or gateways
