From security point of view, yes it is too much.
SC2 has official API though, where you can fetch players game history and such. But it's all kind of limited, and rather specifically suited for Ladder tracking, not Arcade.
Well is it? I'm thinking of working on my map again. Their latest version of the Arcade looks pretty good too, but maybe it's too late at this point?
Also, I'm really not up to date. Is there anything new with the editor since I've lost touch two years ago?

It's not too late. A blizz employee said that arcade engagement was similar to co-op engagement.
