How can i make it so when a unit is killed minerals are rewarded?
Triggers.
Event - Any unit owned by player X dies Condition - Killing unit is owned by player Y Action - Add Z minerals to player Y's mineral count
Thanks, one more thing. Is it possible to create custom items where they enter your inventory?
Errr, probably, but I suggest you try the data and/or triggering forums for that.

Or you can do it with data, I think. I believe the field is called bounty or reward. Set mineral bounty to whatever you want.
