So I played the SC2 beta and used the mapmaker a bit and finally got around to buying the actual game today. So what's new since the beta? With both the mapmaker and the major game changes? i appreciate all the help and look forward to seeing all the cool new maps!
P.S. cool new site design :)
awesome thank ya much! And as for the game itself?
And I was the guy who started out making a tower defense, then tried to make a game called Somnium, which was a demo for a DS idea ive had for a few years (though actually, a few months ago, my friend and I redid the entire concept so I want to remake it)
Also, can you have more than one floor in the mapmaker? For example, could i have an upstairs leading to an entirely new map, or would i have to do either elevation or teleport to another part on the same map
No upper flooring.. no tunnels.. no bridges... teleports are mehhh...
Still loads of functions "there" but unpublishable.. still no mac love (although they did fix the mini map inversions shite.. that was lame).. still have to check everything online.. still have to switch from sc2 to galaxy and back (login login login...mehhhh (insert sheep outcry)
They still do whatever they want (cuddles melee pet) and cater as an afterthought to their most hard earned clients: the mapmakers
blizz services, greatest but still too slow/market whores, for me... gotta ove them (cause they're mostly the last one's to do release the editor...)...
To sum it up: we're up to "blackberry sc2" (...as in not "vanilla sc2", but still ...not fudge either)
Well so far I'm loving the mapmaker and game (thankfully both appear to be very similar to beta!) But are there any changes in the game itself since then? Especially with zerg, but preferably with all 3 races?
blizz has been patching like a god (by sc1 standards)
blizz has been working like an ant in an elephant store with cutlery in the room (by standards today)
Expressrecap:
Fast expand on and off for z... definetly infestors or mass units, still no real hydra massing (it was the op unit in star1).. goop goup gooouuupp, people are loving creep (players asking for maps with "neutral" creep tumors... when no one is watching).
Collo or 4gate+ on and off for toss.. still few dt's and sneak warps... mass sentry very pop, the void ray was nerfed for 6 months... no real carrier massing , prefer cannon rushing / expo blocking.
Banshee, no banshee for t, they almost killed the stim on marauders and sacrificed the reaper... Seems the price of the bunker is really important to them, and it's build time too... :)
No one mentions the op liftoff so much anymore...
Recently the map pool changed, for seemingly larger maps.
blizz featured mods "from the community".
Ladder has now a master's league, custom maps just got a huge "bump" by blizz (added loads of "sorting through maps shite for players)
They've done a good job, but the units feel less exiting.. anyway i'm partial... one can still not publish custom race online... and lan seems like a forgotten dead deal...

From beta to 1.2 (current) not much conceptually has actually changed. I can confirm these have been though:
1. Data editor fields now organized by category like Movement or Stats, before were all NONE.
2. Updating your map will propagate to your map on popularity (e.g. in beta you would have version 1.4 and 1.5 of your map both on popularity)
3. Player Leaves Game trigger event now responds to when a player disconnects
4. We have item manipulated trigger event
5. Can move blizz's UI using SC2layout editing (as opposed to hiding it and making one through dialogs)
6. Dialogs can do a bit more, see patch notes of 1.2
7. Basically a lot of bugs fixed that you wouldn't notice.
8. Popularity in 1.3 looks sexy.
P.S. I think i remember you. Well, that's all I can think of atm.

@ctccromer: Go
You can't have several "floors". But you can create the illusion by teleporting the player when he enters a stairway.

Yep. Tons of changes. Makes sense to read the official patch notes on the website.
