What's appropriate when you use part of someone else's work? For instance, there are a lot of Data Assets here and I've used a few of them as abilities for my map. I also downloaded a few maps to see how they did a particular thing or effect and copied the basic idea into my map.
I definitely feel that I should give credit to the original designer of those abilities, but I don't know what would be a proper way especially if there are multiple different designers. Load Screen? Tips and Hints area? Tooltip of the Ability itself? Or just forget about it?
You could put credits at any number of places in your game, but you should definitely do so. Credit is basically "free" to give to someone, but you might end up with a pretty long list. I'd put it in a menu somewhere or in a tip or something like that. You don't want it to interfere with your game.
As a rule, if someone posted an asset here and you used it, give them credit even if it doesn't explicitly say so. If you ripped someone's code apart to learn, give them credit too even though you didn't directly use any of their assets. Consider giving credit to people who helped you in the forums or IRC. You won't catch everyone, but you can thank the people who make large contributions or really helped you tear down walls. They've volunteered their time and efforts. A simple thank you can go a long way.

Pocket Warriors - A pokemon-style game with SC2 units and full banking. New demo coming soon!
As you may have seen before, people advertising their map with a vod start their video with a "sc2mapster logo" (there is one available to download or you could do one yourself), it clearly states where you are coming from.
A few seconds giving everyone concerned their "due" regarding your map would not be detrimental to your "presentation" in said video... and it shows you feel it's important (while most player might not even see it, I guarantee that all the people who will, will grant your map that much more respect for you having taken the time to do it).
The info box ingame: there is definitely not enough space to credit everyone... but again an "sc2mapster" is short and everyone concerned will know you thought of including them...
The "waiting" page before you download is mainly used to explain "mechanics or such" of your map, however it is enormous so... your call.
The "end credits" of your map is probably the best place to thank people you really feel indebted to... maybe your type of map does not lend itself to it.. but an end credit roll is what's been done since the dawn of media... because it works best. Players who will have invested in playing your map will "enjoy" this, and you can really type your hearts content...players who don't care will skip it... it's of course best to make it a reward of sorts (as done in most games) with screenshots (or even better a video) behind the wall of text featuring your map or other "easter eggs"...
In any case, good for you that you feel these questions are important. The way you answer them is your call. Glhf.
I usually wrote stuff like this into the Tips/Help section. (Or the Quest Log in Wc3).
I don't think there is a reason to mention everyone and their mother in the loading screen, and ability description shouldn't have this kind of info.
