A peculiar design choice I noticed about this game is ranged units ability to shoot through allied units into enemy units. To be clear, Im talking about a marine in the rear of a group of marines hitting a target in front.
It seems to me a wasted opportunity to add another layer of depth to this game.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to search for this topic or where to look in the map editor. (attack AI? target acquistion? target filters?)

So a quick question to anyone interested:
Has anyone built a map that required a ranged unit to check for an unobstructed path to the target? Any reading would be helpful.
Yes this is what Im looking for, and the expansion may make this easier.
I have a question about the mechanics if you'll indulge me. I dont know the procedure of acquiring a target and attacking in this game engine, but it seems like a straight forward algorithm:
1. check for enemy in range
2. if target is in range, attack
3. calculate damage to target
4. repeat
Watching two units fight, It already seems like a line is being drawn between the two units. (because units cant miss) So is it not as simple as adding a IF statement in this algorithm that detects the hit box of a unit between caster and target?
