Due to the stupid popularity system, if I make a map and simply upload it to the servers and here, very few people will see and play it. Even worse is if it is a team verus team map, as those see the map here and want to try it will not be able to find other players to join.
Afaik most serious mapmakers need to bump their new maps at least initially to rise the popularity. I have been doing this for the past three days since I released my new DotA type map. However, this is really boring and I feel stupid doing such thing.
Anyway, where else do you advertise your map besides here and the official forum? This site is mainly for mapmakers and I'm sure there are other SC2 sites that casual custom map players frequently visit. Any other ways to advertise? Or any suggestions in general that can help me rise my map's popularity?
I don't think advertising works. If you advertise on a popular site, your post will just get bump off. Maybe 10 people will view it and out of those 10, 1 might try it. And that person won't be able to get anyone to join the map either.
You probably need a in-game list of friends. Then keep playing the map nonstop for a day, and hope those people who play has a large in-game friend list too. Or have lots friends that will help you bump your map to page 2.
While I can't answer any questions related to the popularity system (I hope it gets fixed soon!!) The map database at SC-Source.com gives you your own forums, which would help with search engine exposure and communicating with your community.
If you've registered your map with our database, if you want to write a guide or review on the map featuring it with gameplay, I'd be glad to post it on the site.
Not sure if the popularity system is reset or not after patch 1.13. I could find my map within top 100 new maps a few days ago but it disappeared since the patch.

Thanks a lot!

Burning Tide was overly advertised. The map disappeared when Blizzard stopped boosting it.
:(
Hope Blizz will dump that stupid popularity system eventually!
How do people get enough friends to bump their maps up to the top? I think bots are being used.
