Does anyone have a good idea of a better targeting aiming system instead of the current traceline introduced in the trigger's library. That traceline does not have the factor of accuracy with different guns and can only target 1 target per shot therefore no AOE effect. I am trying to figure a good idea of an aiming system that would add all these factors into play.
Let me give you the low down on what i am thinking. Basically, inorder to apply an effect, hence "shooting" you must either have a target or have a point(no target). So basically what the traceline does it figure whether what your aiming at is a target or a point and returns that value back to the trigger for you to apply the effect(shooting). Since the currect traceline I am using has a set radius and whether a target is within the radius returns the value true that there is a target. This is all relative to your ingame camera. So thats why there is no AOE effect cuz it only targets 1 target at a time.
So I've made theories, either I make traceline A be the actual one that returns a value to be true or false and have it randomly moved around in X and Y axis within a larger circler than traceline A. So traceline A would have a radius of lets say 1 and it will be within bounds of another circle with radius of 3. Traceline A will randomly move around in the larger circle and I can modify this larger circle for the different guns I can use. Also I could modify how many times a second the Traceline A moves within the circle therefore adding AOE effect.
Are there any problems you think may hinder this? Is it too complex? Is there a more simpler way???
check my map out it might help you and if you can figure out whats wrong with it mabye you can help me but the tageting and shooting all works feel free to take some ideas out of it or use it if u want
your traceline does not put into effect of accuracy like I've tried to explain. This traceline is the current traceline which I was refering as not having these features. Kinda like how counterstrike's aiming goes in and out and has a spread if you use machine gun and stuff
Well to solve the accuracy issue could we just add a random real to the player's camera angle and pitch when using these values for the traceline? What i mean is: traceline(camera pitch + random real between -X and X).
And by AoE effect do you mean weapon spray? Bullets traveling through a target? Explosions?
Bullets traveling through a target wouldn't be a problem as we could just change the traceline function to return a unit group (all targets hit) as opposed to a boolean, then pass that unit group to a damage function?
Explosions could be done by creating a sphere at the impact point and checking which units are within that sphere. Again, the function would return a unit group and damage could be dealt accordingly.
