I'd like the hero to start with rank 1 in every ability. Has anyone found something in the data or trigger editors that might be able to do this?
In the WC3 editor, could simply double-click a unit and set its ability ranks. That's not possible, so I looked for an equivalent of the Hero - Learn Skill function, which I think wasn't implemented either. So I thought of giving every ability's Rank 2 a level requirement of Level 2, but the capability for level skip requirements appears to have been removed.
Is there any way at all to interact with CAbilLearn-derived abilities, either detecting when a unit learns things or telling a unit to learn things?
Small question. How do you get learnable skill for hero? I have only succes adding Ability type Learn, incrementing each level but could not learn anything. If I know I may figure it out for you.
Basically, copy-paste the AHLearn ability from that map. You can rename and duplicate it, but abilities derived from CAbilLearn must start with "A". I created an "ALearn - Commander" in my own map. The l1 - l4 tokens at the top of the ability link to each ability you wish to learn. You also need to do some work on the hero's command card; look at some of the heroes in that map.
That was the map before patch 8 or something? I think they changed the code. Did you really imported custom code into data editor ?? BTW, there was no abilities with that name that I can find inside.
I found a workaround to this by duplicating your ability, rename it <ability (lvl2)> add a stronger effect and add it also to the AHlearn ability and your character.
Now you have to add an ability to the command card.
1. Go to the the ability on your command card 1 and add a second button to that.
1.a. Add the ability and use the ^ button to put it above the lvl 1 ability.
2. Go to the ability on your command card 2 and add a second button with AHlearn and the lvl 2 ability you just added to it.
2.a. Make sure it is below the lvl 1 ability.
Add a requirement to the lvl 2 ability in AHlearn that uses the hero lvl 6 requirement, but now create a similar requirement type for lvl 2 or 5.
I have a hero with several learnable abilities.

I've been searching for a day now for some solution. Anyone have any ideas?
I can give the hero 5 skillpoints to spend at the start... but then the player could simply put all the points in one ability.

I figured out learnable abilities from a map posted in the hero xp tutorial thread here: Your text to link here...

I can still load up the map ok in the editor, I use it as a reference from time to time. The "learn" ability is under Abilities > Neutral > Learn.
Still trying to figure out any way it's possible to interact with these.
Have you tried using upgrades? you could simply have the learn tab apply upgrades to the abilites.

That should do it.

Thank you! Something very similar to this worked for my needs.
