Wasn't sure where to post this; off-topic isn't about sc2, general seems more like a "news" type of area, so i decided to pots this here:
I need an idea for a map. I've thought of several good ones, but problems arise:
Multiplayer TPS = LAG
Risk-Styled - Overused
Spawning stuff - Overused
Arcade Games (Starjeweled, Lost Viking) - Boring to create and again, overused
RPG - This was actually a very good idea when SC2 beta came out, but there's around 40 different RPG projects under construction, and 10 RPG's currently out.
Better ideas but still with problems:
Hero Arena - There's only enough color icons for around 30 abilities, and non-colored ones will be used for buffs and items.
Single Player TPS - Another good idea, but there will still be a large delay due to Blizzard's cunning anti-hacker strategy (AKA no lan) (Plus Project Vector already beat me to the chase ;)).
Cat and Mouse - This should be relatively easy to create, but i can't think of anything other then SC2's Island Defense.
If anyone has any ideas for a map, or variations of the above, please post it. :D
Maybe some more "Dungeon Manager" themed games, where one has to manage their minions, traps, and so forth(maybe take it in a different direction than the Hive Keeper project). Perhaps something along the line of D&D where (x) number of players must control their heroes, while another player attempts to stop them, with monsters, traps, and so forth. I also think a lot more can be done with the "Merchant" style of maps where certain players are charged with supplying others with units, spells, heroes and so on. I also think that the starship combat variety of map of which star battles is currently the best representation could stand to be improved.
Ideas are the hardest part of map creation for me. Once I get an idea, I can make the map really fast provided I have free time to work. Check out the map ideas thread I made (stickied) in the project workplace thread, it might help you. Honestly, maps that are unique AND fun require a lot of work, because all the common maps (dota, tower defense, etc..) have gameplay concepts that are already proven to work- whereas with a unique game, you need to build your own gameplay. One good way to get inspiration is to just PLAY GAMES. Both starcraft 2 maps and other games. And when an idea sneaks up on you all of a sudden, right it down RIGHT then and start brainstorming if possible. I had so many ideas I actually took a book to my school a few years ago just for me to write my game ideas in. ( I know, mega nerd alert... :( )

Maybe do like WC3 and make a swat am like map. Although notd is out it lacks the complexity of swat.
Considered an impossible bosses map?
You can never have to many good rpgs since europe server only has zerg hunter rpg.
I still have to see a truely innoventive TD.
