I'd like to know what's going to change from this version of the editor to the final release version, just so to limit the amount of possible incompatibilities that might come up as we move from beta to WoL.
I'm certain you guys would like to know and appreciate much as well. Is there a way that we as a community could request info of this nature from Blizzard?

i doubt it. i mean the transition from beta phase 1 to phase 2 messed up a lot of maps. i'm kinda afraid after release our maps will be FUBAR from the collateral damage of beta -> release
Exactly. Why should we limit them and not try to ask them? Forums have had privileges on the development of sc2 back then, I'm pretty certain the editor is one feature SC2 will be proud of and which Blizzard will be supporting. Those legal stuff are just for legal stuff, community interaction with Blizzard regarding the editor just might bloom if we give it a shot, in a nice and elegant way of course.
So, how do you guys manage the fact that there is two weeks worth of dev that can be done, and yet there's the possibility that what you have done will only go to waste?
Even IF the maps get completely fked up (I don't think so) your time didn't go to waste.
1) They won't change the coding language much, so 90% of your triggers will still work.
2) You've learned how do to things, that knowledge won't get deleted either.
But the beta is there to develop the game, at the end of the beta should be the final game (except of singleplayer etc). So what we will have a week before the game is released will most likely be the same what we get when we buy the game.
What I really would like to see are change logs for the editor. In WC3 too - they change stuff but didn't tell anybody and we had to find it out the hard way >.<
I see. Well, that's the kind of stuff I wanted to know from Blizzard. Stuff like how much of what may or may not be compatible when the time comes.
I don't really find one week a short time. A whole slew of data mods can be created in as short as 3 days. And not only that the amount in count, but the amount of effort poured into making them.
The way you guys respond seems to me that you are not working on anything right now. If so, then think of it as a starting point of mod community interaction with blizzard. We may not be asking this now, but perhaps, in later times, as more patches come in, the expansions, etc.
Think about it.

I am working on a map right now and i am putting a shitload of work into it, but i still don't fear that my map won't work at all on release. I may have to tweak some stuff and it may be frustrating to do some things from scratch, but it's only a few days of work. I am pretty sure i will play and develop maps for SCII for much much longer, so it doesn't really affect me...

Blizzard showed us more than once what their concept of "short" and "soon" is :D
Obviously Blizzard will continue working, but everything big they're doing right now will be in a 0-day-patch, not in the release version. Also most of it seem to be Battlenet related issues (custom game hosting, etc).
And they'll probably use a lot of that time to fix stuff.
There won't be any new things coming and there won't be any major modifications coming.
Of course there's no guarantee - but I don't think Blizzard would do something like breaking compatibility completely.
Honestly, I don't think Blizzard should even think about adding/tweaking modding features anytime soon. The fact is that it is still very very early in the modding scene's lifespan, there is a LOT people haven't even attempted yet.
6 months or so from now we'll have a much clearer picture of what additions would be most useful
There's a lot of changes in Phase 2's editor compared to Phase 1's editor. Everything seems a lot more organized, like the object id names. It leads me to believe that Phase 2's editor isn't going to be much different than the editor at release. Nothing significant that's going to cause more compatibility errors.

I could not disagree more. Plenty of us have a very good idea of what's needed in the editor and don't feel like waiting a year for fixes.
As someone who hasn't updated since end of phase one (my account got hacked :/) How big is the risk of my map, which I've worked on for ages, won't work once I update? :S
Yes, there's that big possibility that beta editor created maps will go nuclear with the WoL version. Which, case in point, something I think we all would be interested to know about.
Again, it would be great to have our concerns addressed, even by just a blue poster.
It's either that, or it's pointless to work on something with the current editor and expect to continue one's work when the WoL one arrives.
Excactly 24.5%.
A little bit less when your maps starts with an 'A'.
We cannot know. Blizzard might not do anything with the editor anymore except of bugfixing (which is my prediction) or they might break beta maps completely. We just can't give estimates of something we can only speculate about.

They already said they did not provide tech support for the beta galaxy editor, so i assume a no
That's the point. We could use something concrete from them.
I'm sure they will in some form or other. Worth the try, especially since Sc2mapster has already been noticed by Blizzard.

It's a day barely over 2 weeks away, they probably won't see it as question worth the effort of answering in specifics.

I would have done it if I knew. But I'm sure someone here does.

Many thanks to that guy who asked the question during the BBY dev chat!
It seems there's no changes that will utterly destroy our current work. UI, technical fixes, and content only.
