Has anyone deciphered what says can and cannot be targeted by a point defense drone?
I thought it was simple, but then I started trying to find out why (in the data) the drone can shoot down hydralisk projectiles, but not roach projectiles. I've traced this path for both the hydralisk and roach, and haven't found what makes the difference between the two:
Unit > Weapon > Effect > Ammo unit > Actor, Model, Mover
The point defense drone is just like any other unit, but simply targets units with the "missile" flag only. However, both units "Weapon - Hydralisk Ground" and "Weapon - Roach Weapon" have identical flags, and both are flagged "missile". I've looked through the pages of data for the weapon, effect, and other factors for both the hydra and roach. I can't find anything in the point defense drone's weapon data either.
Well I'm guessing; as you've said; that setting the flag to "missile" plays a part in whether or not they are targetable, but I have a feeling there might be some others to check too. The Hydralisk's missile moves pretty darned fast, so it can't be anything to do with speed. Remember, all missiles have a unit component to them. Check the unit's values to see if its flags are set to invincible/targetable etc, as those might affect whether or not the PD drone engages them - seeing as they treated as targetable units. That said, I've had a look at the two, and I still can't see anything which might give a hint as to why it doesn't work :(
What's the difference?
Projectiles throw an unit (missile) when the unit (missile) hits a target/location effect occurs
Beams, after a certain duration (or 0 in hellion's case) damage occurs. Usually beam is created using actors when damage occurs. Think of this as ranged melee attack with delay.

Just food for though, and I hope it helps.
Projectiles = yes
Beams = no
