The ability itself is an effect instant with a set effect - 2 damage effects and 1 search area effect. Even after I checked away the ally and player search filters and excluded my caster for all effects, my custom AoE effect is hurting my caster. Not the other units just the caster. Now the funny thing is, when I checked away both neutral and enemy, they don't get hurt but the caster STILL does. What gives?
I was running into this problem the other day, I unchecked player and it stopped hurting my caster, but I don't know if that doesn't let it damage other player units.
See if your damage/search effects target fields have "Caster" in them. Use "Caster Point" on the search effect instead of caster unit, have all damages target "Target".
Also, did you add "Caster" to the Exclude field under the search area?
Not sure whether that'll solve it, but i hope it helps. gl
i know whats wrong what happens is the damage is being applied on the caster not a target u are the target and you can only exclude the target in splash range...you are going to need a effect that applies it where the caster is but not ON the cater
OMG, I got it...it was because I included the dmg effects in my set, when I took out the dmg effects and left only the area search it was fine so I now have the ability reference the search area and it's working fine now :D

I unchecked player too. The problem is that it seems to hurt the caster no matter what I check or uncheck...
What is initiating the effect?

Ability - Effect instant
I think there's a self flag that you can mark as excluded.
