Hey guys, I'd like to know if there's a way of recreating the ring of the Rainbow Archon shown in the BlizzCon 2010 purely with data. If so, attach a map. This is what I have by now (map attached).
If you look closely it is purely a damage in area aura and not damage done by the beams (we could do better).
As for the spinning, they probably attached it to some spinning actor attachment like a mothership. Since then they have added the SOp (Rotator).
We could try creating it, so when the beam passes through a zone, it damages every unit on the beam's path. I'd need help with this since I'm not a master on data.
Just stating the original archon had a few more than 7.
Main problem with that kind of ability is the Create Persistent effect always rotates with the unit so you need to create a second unit that follows the location of the archon but is not turnable.
You would have to make the unit non colliding and give it an issue order on creation to follow the caster (or have a buff that uses an apply force to move it to the location of the caster).
You then need a buff that periodically uses a create persistent effect that moves effect offsets in a circle around the caster. This effect then uses a second linear persistent that does the damage in a small area. Rest is just like the colossus beam visuals of having a Site (Mover) type actor follow the final period of the linear persistent and a beam attached to it from the caster.

Another difference between the original Rainbow Archon and your version is that the one made by Blizzard has his attack model synched up with his current color, so the attack model actually changes color as well and always uses the same cycle as the Archon itself.
Not a challenge. Just use a set state event action to set the colour and then have two events to set the colour with on for the actor and a syncing one for the action actor.

The attack color and the Archon color is the same if you look closely: I used and Inherited Properties on the beam attack to inherit the Tint Color from the Archon. The Portrait is the one which doesn't follow this rule, since I can't get itworking with Inherited Properties.

I don't see the attack having any special color at all to be honest, visually it's just the normal archon attack and completely independent from the color change? At least it looks like that to me.

Sorry my fault, think that's the version without it. But in the map it has the Inherited Properties correct if I remenber well).

For a start they used 9 colours as can be seen on the giant gg at the end.
The turning of the ring is caused by a banker actor like most flying units use.

The number of colours does't mind too much, 7 is the ideal, since the rainbow has 7.

An example map would be awesome for me :)

What map. They never released the blizzcon demo maps. Same for the fruitlings.

I reffer to some kind mapper who can bring a demonstration map of it.
