Have got a strange issue. I have some custom abils on units, and those abils' buttons have hotkeys, and it have always been fine. But after this patch hotkeys for some abils disappear after a couple of minutes. And they disappear only for me, other players say they still have hotkeys on those abils.
Yes I am having the same issue, hotkeys are randomly disappearing so far mostly the W key on random units. Also, the Attack button is causing some weird message: "[] then (mouse left) ground to Auto-Attack" which is also covering up other buttons on the command card or removing them, I haven't quite figured it out yet.
Edit: Scratch that, it's been reported to me that it's not just the hotkey vanishing, but the entire button from the command card. There is no pattern to it, it seems to be random. I have no triggers affecting these buttons, and the data is the same as always, so I have no clue on where to begin....
I was having the same problem, with the hotkeys disappearing (but not the entire button).
I disabled ((Basic) UI: Hides For Simple Text) in the button properties for each button and that seems to have fixed it. Which is strange because I already had simple command card off, and overridden to off for everyone.
Your solution worked! The attack button now shows up properly, as well as the hotkeys and buttons that were hidden. I still see the weird message "[] then (mouse left) ground to Auto-Attack" which is there because of the simple command card. I think this new "Simple Command Card" is the source of both of our issues, maybe it's also why certain buttons are just vanishing. I could share my thoughts on what I think of this new "feature" but it would be filled with anger and profanity.
What I'm curious on, is how did you disable it for all players by default? I can see the option in the Options>Gameplay menu, but how do I force it off for everyone in the map?
It seems that I am not free from this bug just yet. At any point the menu (F10) is opened during a game, every "W" hotkey vanishes from every unit that has a button with it. The "Z" hotkey also vanishes from some unit buttons, but not all of them. I've tried replacing the hotkey, which works but because the command card buttons match the keyboard layout this is not a valid solution for me. This also affects units that are not already on the map. Lets say I hit F10, closed the menu, created a barracks and trained a marine that had "W" for stimpack. When that marine comes out, "W" will not be there and pressing it will not activate stimpacks.
I've tried creating new buttons and placing them on different units, and W always fails and Z only fails sometimes on some units. I'm not sure what's the culprit here, whether or not it's just a bug with 2.0.4, or there's some real problem somewhere on the abilities they link to. All I do know is that before the latest patch, this never happened.
Edit: Confirmed this as a StarCraft II bug. I created a brand new map, created a new button with "W" as the hotkey, added fungal growth to the Marine's command card using this button, hit test, pressed F10, and the W vanished from the button. So I guess we just have to wait for a fix from Blizzard. I already made a post on their bug report forums, I just hope it gets some attention.
Another Edit: Getting closer to the source of the issue. The problem is within F10 Menu >> Options >> Hotkeys. Checking the option "Allow Toggle Conflicts" and saving as a new profiles fixes hotkeys from vanishing. But this setting is local, so how to fix it within the map so Blizzard's system doesn't conflict is still a mystery to me.
I was wrong in assuming that checking "Allow Toggle Conflicts" fixed the issue because it didn't. It was because I manually assigned a hotkey for the buttons that the key went missing on and forgot that I did. Starting over I deleted the custom profile, reloaded the game, tried checking the box, and it did not fix the hotkey issue. It seems that Blizzard's hotkey system is somehow conflicting with my hotkeys and disabling them. I'm not exactly sure why, every button on the unit has a unique hotkey. I'm gonna try tracing back to the abilities they link to, and see if I can find a problem there....
The issue is easy to replicate, create a new map, new button, make it W for hotkey, add fungal growth ability to marine, add to marine command card, and test. Not enough energy to cast, but upon load, the key is there. Press F10 and close the menu, it vanishes. Considering this is a brand new map with only 1 custom data entry, I'm not sure what the issue could be.
Yeah there is unbound keys in almost every arcade map i've tried since the patch, and I get a "hotkey conflict" message at the start of the game. (See my thread here.) It may be related? Was it only the W key that was unbound when you checked your hotkey options?
Btw I got your problem (Hotkey disappearing after menu opened) to work with the marine and stimpack, not sure why it's not happening on my map yet.
The "W" key is the only one that seems to be disappearing off of every unit in the game. The "Z" key also disappears off of some units, but not others. I'm pretty sure the issue is related to the one in the post you linked, Blizzard's new system seems to have some flaws. In my map there are quite a few "unbound" keys, but they don't vanish like the W key does. And I'm not even sure why they are "unbound", as far as I know there isn't much beyond assigning the hotkey in the button's data field. I've searched throughout the editor for some new option I missed but so far I'm still clueless on why some hotkeys are going missing.
K I figured out why mine wasn't disappearing, it's because "UI: Hotkey Alias" was set to (None) in the button properties. I'm not even sure what that field is for. But anyway if you set it to (None) the issue doesn't occur.
Edit: Oh I think the hotkey alias must be what it sends to the hotkey profile thing to say what hotkey it is. So if it has no alias then it can't conflict with those other melee hotkeys. W for the ability was conflicting with the Warpgate hotkey (Even though the player is Terran too haha).
You know what... that did it, good job! I can't believe I spent almost 2 hours trying to find out why this was happening, and never bothered to change a setting that has "hotkey" written in it. Putting the alias to none did solve the issue of the key disappearing when pressing F10. At least the issue of how hotkeys disappear has been identified and a work around discovered. I always had the alias set to the button because I thought that was the "proper" way even though I wasn't sure what that field actually did. Now I can finally put this headache behind me.. thanks a bunch!
I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. Do you mean you're resetting it in the data editor? Can you just right click the button in the data editor and click reset button? Is it still showing as unbound after that?

Yeah I really don't like that "simple" command card either haha.
Use the trigger "Override player option" and disable "Enable simple command card".
If you looked around the forums you would see lots of people have been saying it :)
Oh and you might want to force enable enemy unit selection too if you need to do that at all in your game.
yea, I suspected it's simple command card related thing, but didn't know we need to edit buttons besides the override thing
though, I met this bug only twice, then tested alot, and it didn't happen again

Hmm that's strange.

:) It looks like it will fix my "Hotkey conflict" message problem too, I won't have to wait for the next SC2 patch after all :D
It seems to have solved it :)
But for some reason I cant reset Burrow (the Standard ability for zerg) to R? I reset it, click apply, and it tells me that the button is unbound...
I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. Do you mean you're resetting it in the data editor? Can you just right click the button in the data editor and click reset button? Is it still showing as unbound after that?
Thanks for the info guys. Seems to work great for my map.
