i had an ability that worked fine - it is an healing light that damages an enemy unit and heals an friendly.
i did that while using the effects "modify unit" instead of "damage". used friendly unit or enemy unit validators to determine whic effect is used.
now, some months later i learned new things and wanted to overhaul some of my abilities, including that healing light.
tried to change these modify unit effects to damage setting one to negative damage (healing) and the other one to pure damage.
problem is: (if anyone read before the edit, found that solution -.-) i can target enemy units, and it damages them - i can target friendly units/myself but it wont heal me.
that kinda makes no sense.. any ideas?

then this is outdated - but anyways this still wouldnt make sense, there are behaviors where you still can put in negative values to get the opposite effect.
There is a flag which allows you to negate the minimal damage clamp usually applied to damage effects. Else modify the clamp directly under the gameplay constants

if you meant the minimal damage value in the "Default SC2 Gameplay Settings", that didnt worked.
but im pretty sure my knowledge of the editor isnt big enough and you mean something else that i just dont know how to find :D

I believe someone said that you cant put negative damage.
well the wiki says it is possible and its used as heal then...
