My current map uses buildings that look like units (i.e uses the marine model), and whilst I can alter the facing direction, colour, and have the building use the non combat shields model once the building is completely built and on the map, whilst I am selecting where to place the building the (green/transparent) placement model appears to use the default model settings and adds a combat shield, faces the wrong direction, and reverts to the team colour.
All the changes I made to achieve the first said bit were via events+ obviously so I was wondering if anyone knew how I would apply those changes to the placement model ? I see and use 'unit birth' and 'unit construction' to create the actor (followed by 'actor creation' events to change the desired visual properties; facing, colour, shield) however there doesn't seem to be any "unit placement" style events that could potentially solve this.
Look at the actor called Placement Model. You find it is created on any actor creation but uses a Model Name term. Try combining this with a Model Swap action.

Works a treat, used a fresh Model - Placement Model (non default) actor and was able to apply all of the changes via its Events and Host Site Operations so didn't have to use a model swap in the end (tho I have only tried this with 1 unit so far, so the Model Swap might be useful for managing multiple units running off that same [Model - Placement Model] actor I'm guessing).
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I'm not sure it's anywhere in a tutorial, since I've looked for this a few times.
Perhaps the topic title is a bit long which makes it harder to identify doing a search, so I'm going to add some search terms in my post and provide an easy tutorial based on the above posts, so everyone can do this. :)
How to make 'custom' placement model.
Create a new Model. In the Art: Model field use the model of the normal unit/building.
Go to Actors and find the Placement Model Actor. In the Event: Events+ field add:

How to make 'custom' placement model.
Then go to the Actor of the Unit you want to have showing a different placement model, and enter your model in the Art: Model (Placement) field.
Thanks again. :)
