hello everyone. I'm a noob map create that is making a defense game called speed D. i've gotten alot of information from tutorials, and i'm ready to give it a shot! Only..... i'm not an expert. So, i just have a few questions that i would like answered if anyone knows the answer to them. Please note: I am not an expert, and would like ur answers to be simple and specific. question 2: How do you get structures and units to be different colors? I know it has something to do with actors, but i couldn't figure out where to change it.
Question 1: "Splash Damage" is just a damage type for classification purposes. It doesn't splash automatically. You can make a melee attack use splash damage for it's damage type if you wanted. If you want damage to splash to surrounding units, you must create a search effect at the point of impact to damage all units in a range.
Question 2: Do you mean, how do you change the textures on a unit? If so, take a look at this tutorial. It's a perfect guide to how to change textures on the fly.
Question 1: Under the Damage effect there are fields that allow the effect to deal splash without the need for a Search Area effect. Read this article from the wiki to know exactly which ones
Question 2: I believe you are refering to the Set Tint Color actor event. Just have Actor Creation>Set Tint Color unless you want it to change colour under more specific conditions

Once again, I have said exactly what I didn't mean to say because I was in a hurry. DrSuperEvil said clearly what I meant to say and didn't. You do not need a Search Effect, as there is an search area option in the damage effect. Thank you for correcting.
I know it's been awhile, but i've been doing alot of work. I just have question about splash damage. So i found where to make the splash damage occur, but i just want to make sure that I know exactly how to use this table (the one that pops up) so that i can do what i want with it. I will list out everything to make it easier, and I will put what i think it is. Please tell me if I am correct. (And sorry if i'm being a pain. I just don't want to screw it up. )
Arc: 360 degrees: what angle the splash does (example: circle, half circle, etc.)
bonus: damage bonus from splash?
fraction: what fraction of the unit damage the splash damage is
maximum count: the maximum amount of units that the splash damage can hurt
radius: how big the radious of the splash damage is
continuation:radius bonus: no clue :D Validator: i am guessing that i am supposed to match the validator with the validator of the damage? I can't do that becuase the damage is a photon cannon, and the photon cannon has a validator that is unknown
So, i have to set the effect type to splash, then put in the info.? Also, i still don't get the validator thing. So what am I supposed to do? Set the validator to true?
(Again, sorry for being a pain and confused)

No the Effect - Kind purely determines what the damage is known as for the purposes of damage responses caused by buffs.
Validators are to add complexity to your abilities depending on certain conditions. For example you could have a set effect with several damage effects but some are set that you need to have researched a certain upgrade to work.

Read the wiki page I referenced and all will be explained.
Validators return true or false depending on if their requirements are met. In the case of effects if they are false the effect just does not occur.
