So I'm working on this missile system, but I can't seem to get the Search Effect to work right. Let me explain what I'm trying to do.
Ok so my missile fires fine, but after it fires I want to add a search effect to the missile, so it'll follow the missile and every say .5 seconds it checks for a enemy unit, if it finds one, damages it with my effect then goes away. I had gotten this to work somewhat, but it seemed like the search effect wasnt following the missle right. Anyone out there that can help me out with droppin some knowledge on me?
Thanks man, got my missile working decent. The only problem now is that the missile doesn't always fire, Im using a custom function to trigger the effect, and Im using Mouse Position x/y for the target, but sometimes it just wont shoot at the point. You ever run into that?
If you're using exactly that sort of thing with the persistent effect at the start of the chain with the -Y offset you might be running into the situation where the -Y offset goes past the map's border and that stops it from firing. That's about the only hangup I'd found with such things, just need a happy medium of Y offset vs missile's mover's settings vs map's borders to get around that if that's the case.
That would actually make sense, I wasn't sure how that field was effecting things. That offset is where the missile is flying towards then correct? I'll just lower it a bit and try that.
Indeed that is what the launch missile effect uses as a destination and what the mover uses to figure out how fast/slow to send the missile towards it based on its own settings vs the offset distance. So yah if its unable to reference a point due to it being beyond the map's edges it won't create the rest of the effect. Took me a while to figure out what was going on when I met the same thing :P

Add a behavior to the missile, which uses the search effect periodically.

Could you expand on how to achieve this?

Its an older thread but the map attached to it shows exactly how this sort of thing works: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/map-development/4399-make-a-fireball-ability/
Its been a pretty solid building block for many of our 'targetless' projectiles projects.

Awesome, thanks for the information man, saved me a days worth of headache.
I'd give you some +Rep if I could :P

Sweet thanks for the internet, I shall try not to spend it all in the same Chan!
