I am working on my first model in 3ds max. Shes 3k poly. Terra, those balls on her shoulders are conductors to sap energy from the environment. Shes psyonic and attacks like an archon would.
True the Texture Select By Id event action is a good way to text various existing textures for inspiration.
I know Evil, I was the one that showed you how at the Hiveworkshop, I also figured out a way to switch to null material. Remember you wanted a cloak that uses the terrain like doodads. Haven't tested it though since I haven't opened the editor in months.
Also, I can just drop textures into 3ds max for renders, don't need switch textures in game for inspiration.
not really if its for in game. remember most of this is viewed from above so you want to make the details on the top and the features lower down large and obvious.
Yes, but the proportions have to be kept in mind. If you would look at this model from a 70° angle it would look shitty because the arms are waaay to small for those legs for example. I THINK ;)

Arms are actually are slightly shorter and thinner than I intended, Abs are need to be streched upwards a bit. Nothing to crazy. Thanks for pointing that out. Otherwise I would of missed it.
I am almost done the full texture. Took me awhile to do since I am not an artist. But, I am really proud of it because, everything is hand drawn, and I have never drawn really drawn anything before. Will update soon.

I.e. reverse greek columns. Although that would mean you would need a cinematic version for any cinematics.

Sorry, got held up with real life. Here is the diffuse, there is no normal map.
Everything is 100% hand drawn. No stenciling, no AO mapping. Comments/criticism welcome. Since this is my first real texture, I am still learning.
Here it is in game.
I probably can run 2024 by 2024 textures , with 10k polys.
