I need a .m3 model of a simple one sided square. Just 4 vertexes, 1 surface. Like a cube consists of 6 of them. But I neeed just one. Also, it has to have a texture on its face - a square picture between `64x64 and 256x256. So, what is easiest way to get this thing?
Maybe there is one present in editor yet?
Or it is present to download somewhere on this site?
Or maybe this thing can be imported from wow?
Or maybe it's easy to create in 3dmax and import to .m3?
Or anyone can create it for me because it's like 5 minutes of work?
Just to correct your title, the simplest model ever would probably be a triangle, as that is what all models are made of. Also, the last two would be correct, and I would do it for you, but I don't know how to use 3ds Max....
Alrik1989, i'll pm you my e-mail, just want to discuss a little thing first.
The reason I neeed this model is that I need to increase graphical perfomance of my civ mod. In the engame, a player may have a whole screen of irrigations and roads, and it lags.
My actual road model includes 4 cube shapes, so in shows to a camera at least 12 surfaces at any moment. My idea was to replace the model and use 1 square model with 1 surface showed, as I described in 1st post.
But then, I decided to measure the perfomanse profit. I have compared a perfomance between an old road models and a decal, whith which I replaced the 4 cube model.
And I found out that "1 decal" model equals "4 cube" model in terms of graphical perfomance. But it's not so cool as I expected. I thought decal with 1 surface will beat the cubes with 12 surfaces.
So, now I need to decide between 2 variants of the model I need.
1. The square model has no texture at all, or it has the simpliest texture, like the Shapes from editor has. In this case I will use 4 models as I used to, but it should be 3 times better comparing to cube.
2. The square model has really small texture, so it could beat the old 4 cube model by perfomance. But still the texture size should be large enougth to show a road tile or irrigations. In this case i'll use just this one tile as a road model. And this variant may require a few experiments to see, what is the smallest resolution of a texture which still looks good.
So, I need your opinions, what variant will allow to have the lowest perfomance losses.
Also, I want to ask you, Alrik, 2 questions: is it possible for you to create a texture with alpha channel? And, if it will be possible to paint in a texture file, like I painted in one after exported a model from wow?
There are irrigation, road, and railroad models attached as I would the model I desire to look like.
P. S. Yes, jaxter, yout right, triangle is the simpliest one, but still we neeed 2 of them to fit a square.
Let's try to create a model for 32x32 texture. Hope it will work fast and show things well. There is an archive with two texture files, for irrigation and for road.
Ok, I have installed 3ds max and imported a one square model myself. And now I have 2 questions:
1. Why is the cube shape model beat my one-squre model in graphical perfomance? Cube has 3 surfaces and some kind of animated texture, while my model has no texter and has only one surface. But still the cube wins. Why?
2. How to create in 3d max a one-square model, which could wor faster then a cube shape?
