I had an interesting idea that may rescue a map I am currently failing to create... The ability for a carrier to build and house multiple types of Interceptors, all of which are counted against a common total but have different attacks.
I've created a new interceptor unit (calling it a Bomber) with the Viking's model and the Marauder's attack. I made a new ability copied from the original hanger ability and edited the created unit to be the bomber. I changed around the carrier's command card, adding a secondary card instead of the default interceptor build and put both ability icons on it. Even duplicated the original actors for the ability, thought I couldn't find anything to change on it.
However, no matter which I click, the carrier creates a standard interceptor. I removed the interceptor ability, and it still only makes normal interceptors. What's more, only the interceptor icon actually tallies the number of interceptors built. On the original, the interceptor icon showed 7, the bomber icon (looks like a viking now) showed only 4 and did not change. In the second test, it didn't change, even when there were 7 or 8 flying around.
If anyone can help me create a solution to this conundrum, I would be grateful
I vaguely remember someone explaining that carriers use an unfortunately complex combo of their cargo and ammo fields to deal with interceptor creation which probably explains why this isn't work out but not exactly how. :( I remember reading this post a few hours ago and trying to remember more of what was original said but yah that's the gist of it, you'll need to figure out the secrets of the relationship between that unit's cargo and its weapon's ammo before you can solve it I think.
