Been reading here for a while, this is my first post though. This seems like a great place for map makers to share their skills with one another.
I have come across a killer model for 3DS Max that I would like to use in a map I'm working on soon. I haven't the foggiest how to work with 3DSMax other than install and open. I did find NiN's M3 Converter, and got the script to run in the program, but it gives me an error when I try to export. If possible, could someone donate a few minutes of time to either skype and help me do it, or run the export for me and let me pay you back in some fashion.
Thanks for any help.
(BTW, I purposefully did not give details of the model or map, I would like to keep it close to my chest for now. Obviously the person to help would know though.)
What version do you have? The exporter is designed to work on 3DS Max 2010. It's typically fairly simple to run it through, but there are still a lot of issues with it. I've had issues with flying vertices on just about everything I've done (although my models and rigging are a lot more complex than usual; no one else seems to have the same problems), sometimes materials aren't mapped right, if at all, etc. If you wanted to send me the file I can see if I can get it to work, although I can't make any promises as to whether or not I can get it to work properly obviously.
Depending on how necessary the model is to your map right now, I would tell you that you may be better off waiting for an update (for the sake of retaining your secrecy, obviously you can just export it again later). I'm unofficially working on the exporter (as far as I know, NiN isn't planning on releasing any future updates however provided the source code so I kind of stole it), and know it will be some time before anything is released from me. So it all depends on what you want to do.

Varine: Thanks for the reply. I actually don't have a clue what the specifics are as to the makeup of the file itself. Like I said before, I know nearly zero about 3DSMax. Yes by the way, I am using Autodesk 3ds Max 2010 32-bit. I was able to import a model from SC2, and turn around and export it successfully, but when I pulled it back up in SC2 the skin was all black, so something was lost in the translation I'm afraid. If you want, I can send you the file (its not super top secret and I'm not in a dire rush, but I would like to see if it will work before I move on.) I'll PM you my info to get a hold of me, and then you can at your convenience.
