As the title suggests, I would like to know an easy way to make a certain unit unable to attack by using triggers.
I would also like to make the unit able to attack again via triggers.
I don't know what I did, but suddenly the mini-map inside the Editor went black.
The mini-map shows colored dots, such as units.
It's pretty much like disabling the terrain on the mini-map In-game.
This is not a big deal, but I would like to see the terrain again.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Solved.
Apparently it acted weird when I was playing around with Lightning. -It's now back to normal.
I did not manage to make it work this time either.
I must admit you lost me a on a few points. Here's what I did:
I opened the Data Module (F7).
I went to the Buttons tab.
I searched for 'Hold Postion', and copy + pasted it. (Resulting in 'Hold Position Copy')
I went to the Units Tab, and searched for "Gate".
I brought up all the lowered gates.
I went to the ability tab for each gate.
I clicked on the "broken button".
I modified the broken button to use 'Hold Position Copy'.
I added an order to 'Hold Position' via trigger to my pre-placed gate unit. It did not work.
I'm pretty sure I should've done something between the last and second last step. You mentioned Ability Command?
When I check the Ability Command for the "broken button" there is nothing. (Ability, on the other hand, is a full list of different stuff.)
There is also "Command Type" and "Requirements" - I left those two alone as well.
I haven't had a need to do it before but pretty sure you can use a message to its actor to reclose them, or if you want the command button to do it you might have to duplicate its current one and replace the stuff it does with the action that'll close it instead, but yah I also noticed they only work one way in terms of what they'll do when that button is pressed.
What's sending message to actors?
How would I do that in order to close the door?
Edit:
The post i quoted was confusing. when reading the post now i understand that you want to open/close it with the command card and not through regions. I am pretty sure there is a simple way to do this, you could for example use the tank ability and modify it so that it changes between closed and open. sadly i cant go into details right now as im in school.
Yes, I want to use the command card thingie.
I have no idea how to do that.
How can Blizzard have failed so hard on something so simple?
I have tried for at least 5 hours to make my gates close.. It feels like I have tried every possible combination to make this work, but it just doesn't.
After 5 hours trial and error I have managed to:
1. Make the gate open properly.
Now I need to close the god damn gate again, but I just can't figure out how..
After googling I found out that a button is missing (or whatever) for the open gate units.
I opened the Data Module, searched for 'gate', got the list of gates. Found the "open" ones, checked their 'Ability' tab, and true enough - the button is #%#!ed up.
I tried modifying it, and adding different buttons (at different times, of course.) Here's a few examples of what I tried: SpacePlatformDoorClose (Unnamed), HoldPosition, Cancel, etc..
I, obviously, tried to order the god damn gate to Hold Positon, when I used that button, Cancel for that button, etc. -Nothing worked. The gate won't close.
I placed a couple of gates on the map, and took control of them. I selected them. (I even modified the Unit's stats so that I can select and target "open" gates.) I pressed the "open gate" button - works perfectly.
The new button (HoldPosition, or whatever I currently had replaced it with) appers. I press it, and the gate closes - works perfectly.
The problem is that there seems to be no way whatsoever to do this via triggers..
I played this map yesterday on B.net.
I signed up to this site just to give my opinion of it.
Although it had some minor flaws the map is freakin' amazing.
It took me back a few years to playing FFVII (possibly one of the greatest games ever made) for the first time.
Everything the map offered was perfect!
The only sad thing about it is that it left me wanting for more.
I would love to see a follow-up map where the player has a bit more control. Free-roaming, bumping into random enemies, etc.
I wouldn't mind playtesting new versions of the map. =)

@aznbot256: Go
I manage to create a button for the gate unit - that works when I select the gate, and click the button.
However, there's no way to make the button work via triggers..

Nope. I had already found that thread via google. Sadly it didn't help me.

Apparently no one else knows how either..

I don't know how.

You're right. The problem is that no order I issue works.

Hi.
Is there a way to set for how long a certain text message should be displayed?

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread. Hopefully one of you who already replied will see this and help me with my problem.
I'm trying to make gates work properly. I have managed to open the gate via triggers. (Command card.)
But I can't for the life of me make the gate close via triggers. (Command card.)
I do not want to replace the unit. I just want to open/close the gate.
Please give me a step-by-step explanation of how it's done.
