    posted a message on Remake of Supreme Commander map from WC3

    Because so few people play WC3 any more and this was by far my favorite map I've been interested in seeing a SC2 remake of it. The WC3 map is here: http://supcom.btanks.net/ and is based on the game by THQ. I would create it myself but I've got no experience with making maps for SC or WC. If someone wants to try and help me or let me help you with making this map I'd love to take a shot at it. I'm just now finishing my 2nd semester of c-plusplus classes so I know beginning cpp. My classes have not (yet) covered threads, sockets, or graphics libraries in cpp.

    If someone wants to make me their project and tutor/mentor me while this is my project that would be awesome. Really though, I just want to see the WC3 map get ported over to SC2 so I can (hopefully) get other people to play it with.

    The main areas(at least that I can think of):

    Effects

    - This project would require a LOT of custom projectile and beam effects.

    Interface

    - Ideally I'd like to at the very least have the ability to zoom all the way in/out as you can in the original game. As with the unit models, I'm not sure how legal it is/isn't to copy the UI from the original.

    Maps

    - Is it possible to allow for multiple maps or terrain layouts to be bundled into a single map? In other words, could I have all of the "maps" I want to use be part of a single SC2 map that switches terrain based on a player vote or would it need to be separate maps for separate terrain. I'd like the terrain to be full-sized relative to the real game so if the only way to switch terrain layouts in-game is to split the map into sections, It'll probably need to be a bunch of separate maps with the same units/triggers but different terrain.

    Sound

    - Again, I'm not sure of the legality when it comes to taking from the original but whatever solution is used for unit models will probably work with sound effects as well.

    Terrain

    - The maps are already made (twice in fact, in the WC3 map and the original game) so all that needs to be done is replicate them in galaxy.

    Triggers

    - As I said above - I know a little cpp but it would take me a bit to get used to either coding in galaxy or navigating the GUI. - Need to replicate income and resource storage system, adjacency bonus system and volatile structures damaging nearby units & structures.

    Units

    - Need to either take blizz models from SC or WC or make custom ones. I'm not sure exactly what the legality will be of trying to take models from the original game or how that would even be done.

    - What program/tool is used to create and modify custom unit models?

    - Damage, cost, and health amounts can be taken from either the original supcom or the WC3 map.

    I'll add to the list if I think of anything else. I'd like to know what you guys think about this - It'll be a fairly massive undertaking to remake an entire game even for an experienced map maker.

    note: Apparently the forums see + + as a marker to begin coloring text green so i'm calling C.+.+ cpp instead.
