I do really want to upload it to the US. I'm waiting for someone willing to let me use their login details to upload the map. I'm nearing the point where I'd almost be prepared to ship a US copy over... just not sure that I can even have 2 sc2 clients installed on the same computer.

I actually have a spare account that I could load a map up on if this is something you are comfortable with. PM me if that's something you would like me to do for you.

I like to tell myself that it's too unintuitive and puts new players off. I must spend hours per week trying to find better/prettier ways to display things...

I also think it doesn't have enough explosions, but then I think that of everything so I'm unsure if the point is valid!

I'd love to play this map but it's not available in NA. When are you going to get uploaded for us folks on the other side of the pond?

As for the popularity system, I feel your pain.

I tried this out and I pretty much just got a greytone environment. Also for the last step, Terrain Specular Exponent's lowest value is 1 not 0. I've double check my changes and they all correspond to the ones you recommended. What might I be doing wrong?

    Really really impressive map.

Thank you very much. No AI though, so you'll have to find a friend to play it.

That reminds me, I'm US so it's not uploaded to the EU servers. Gonna need a proxy to do that for me.

    Baby steps. ;)

Yeah I'm definitely working up to such things in the near future. My original design was much larger but when I started getting bogged down by the size of it, I opted for a smaller and much simpler design.

    Stay tuned! :D

Yeah don't worry, I won't just surprise people with a new map layout. It won't be anything soon, and it will be meticulously planned out.

Been working on a lot of graphical updates to spice the map up. Re-worked some abilities to be more like I want them to be. Added the pilot system, your pilot can teleport around the map so you basically can choose where you spawn. I think I fixed the healing weapon graphics bug, but it still drains energy when not in use.

I would think that once you get the game play all tweaked and worked out, it would just be a matter of copy, paste, and plugging in to a new layout. A series of maps with the same game play would make less burnout as people can rotate through various environments as they play. :)

Thanks for the complement tigerija! I wouldn't knock Eivivyn's map just yet... she did say it was a quick 30 sec mockup redesign and I think the only reason she is considering a new layout is because of the issues with top to bottom and left to right ramps. Taking a current design and trying to remodel it is more of a pain then just starting from scratch. I totally understand her dilemma. ;)

I guess I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly plug myself and say that if anyone wants some layout work done, and I have time to do it outside of my own projects, feel free to send me a PM and we can talk details. ;)

Oh and just a clarification, my layout is part of a complete custom map I had been working on over the last 2.5 weeks. You can find it on sc2mapster here... http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/red-and-blue/

I actually like the Arcology-esque map, but I see what Ryaneko was saying... you used north-south/east-west ramps, which are not great for LoS purposes... and yeah a full rework would be required to put the map into an X formation rather then a +. I learned that one early on. ;)

    To respond to your statement...

    Quote:

The reason the map is so open and large is just because I like battles with lots of lateral movement.

... I too like that your maps have a more open battleground... that doesn't, however, explain why the base areas are so large. Do battles take place within the bases as well as out on the field?

I haven't had the chance to play your current version being on NA battle.net so for give my ignorance, but whats the purpose of such large base areas? Is there a significant role in that area that it needs to be so large on a rather large map? If it's just a shop area, wouldn't a smaller base give you more room to work with in the combat areas? And why so large a map?

Otherwise I like the general design. :)

I'm probably going to have to remake the whole terrain at some point. The layout just doesn't seem optimal anymore. I have this nice idea of a mar'sara landscape with deep canyons and interspersed abandoned terran outposts, with 2 derelict strongholds at either side of the map. The whole map would have a refinery/disused mine feel to it, with pipes running through and around the landscape and gaping holes from past excavations.

    Something like this maybe?

I've been working on this for about 2.5 weeks. Not exactly the same gameplay as yours but somewhat similar.

    Description

The Red and the Blue is a Medium sized custom multi-player (1v1) map for StarCraft 2 and built with the included Galaxy Editor. It utilizes all the standard multi-player units and some of the units found in the campaign scenarios. This map is set on a Terran military research installation on a blasted rock in the middle of the desert wasteland of Mar Sara. Two factions, Dominion forces (the Red) and James Raynor's rebel marines and mercenaries (the Blue), are pitted against each other in a race to gain control over the installation's key facilities.

Each player is awarded points for controlling any of six "flagged" facilities at the installation; the Research Bases, the Special Ops facilities, and Mercenary Outposts. In addition to game points, when a player maintains control of one of these facilities, they are activated and provide support to that faction. For example, by gaining control of a Mercenary Outpost, the player will gain access to purchasing Mercenary units. Each player is awarded points for each "flag" facility that they manage to capture and successfully defend. No points are awarded for bases who's control is contested.

The standard game timer runs for 20 minutes. The player who has accumulated the most points by the end of the game timer is awarded the victory. Should both players be tied at the end of the game timer, the game goes into sudden death overtime, with the first player to gain a higher score being awarded the victory. In addition, should one player reach 1000 points before his opponent, that player will be granted a victory as well. Also note that if a player should manage to maintain ground unit control of their opponents base, they are granted a x10 multiplier to their capture points and a x2 multiplier to resources, and at the same time their opponents point gains and resources are nullified. Defend your bases well!

The Red and the Blue is currently in it's beta testing phase. Looking for play testers! Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you may have. Thank you, good luck and have fun! :)
